If they're trying to build Bayliss knockoffs they succeeded.

Friend from New Bern sent it to me. Don't know any other details, hopefully they can get it rigged and ready for display at the Palm Beach show.

Is this a real image or PS? I can't tell the difference, sometimes.

Not renderings. Another pix from the paint booth.Hat65gtpaintbooth2024.webp

I looked up Bayliss and can't get over the similarity, practically identical. I see Bayliss Boat Yard is in NC too, perhaps borrowing the paint booth? https://www.baylissboatworks.com/

The paint booths at Bayliss are state of the art unlike what's in the pix.

Are Bayliss yachts FRP from a mold, or are they cold molded?

I'm glad Hatteras is back in the game- well, maybe they were never out of it, but seeing an actual hull of that size is a relief.

Looks longer than 65 feet, to me.

Must be Johnny always wanted a Bayliss.

Bayliss's hulls are jig built cold molded with fir stingers and ribbands using Okoume plywood for the hull skin all wrapped in epoxy and various types of fiberglass cloth. Not exactly sure how they're building the bulkheads but probably a combo of plywood and foam. They're using a lot of foam along with plywood to build the house, bridge, mezzanine, console, benches, etc. Think he's pretty conservative when it comes to structural building materials/components. Their finish work is just lights out.

Copying Bayliss is not such a bad idea . They build great boats .

The problem has been actually getting the builds out the door/completed. The quality has been pretty good although the Fish Tank people will disagree because of all the issues they had. Probably an order Hatteras should have said no to as there was just way to many custom complicated systems for Hatteras to figure out / install in their current state. Btw, that was a 2021 65gt which looks exactly like the 2024 so I'm not sure what's changed mold wise. Of course they quickly replaced their Hat with a new Viking which looks even worse for the crew that builds Mako and Tracker boats.

At least to me all the NC-built sportfish boats look 90% the same, low-slung, skinny waist, intentionally-exaggerated bow flare, and they have for 30 years. From that perspective this is really a departure for them, Hatteras always had a distinctive look that wasn't the "Carolina" look. But regardless, that's a damn fine looking boat. Assuming the quality is there to match, they seem to have landed on something people want.

Pretty sure the current ownership didn't build any of those boats used in that video.
If there was a lot of action at their factory they would be pumping out video and photos non stop, even more screwed up if there is and they aren't.

If you look at the entire website, you'll notice photos with fluorescent lights in one of the engine rooms. How old is that? And other photos of engine rooms of smaller boats that they don't even build anymore.

After all of this time with little to no production, how do you ever build a workforce again? All of the talent is gone.
