  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Going to setup and play with the new toy this weekend. I haven't decided just where to mount it. Looking for input of do's and don't on those who have been down this path before. Just moved to a new marina and Sat dishes are not allowed. We have been living aboard for 5 years and have been so use to having Dish Network on the boat and house, so I gave in and bought the KVH system. Several years ago, I ran across a Mast off a larger Hatteras and mounted it on our 53 MY. How do you think it would look to mount the KVH on the back side of the Mast above the Radar. Thanks :p

Mike, we've had that antenna for about 5 years and love it. Ours is mounted in front of the flybridge console, port side of mast. That position has generally worked well but there are at least two marinas we frequent where we have to dock starboard side to in order to get a signal. If I ever have to replace this unit, the next one will probably be mounted on the radar arch where it will not be blocked by a large object (flybridge console!).

Hi Mike, good to hear from you. What SAT did you set your Dish Network receiver? We we were on a fixed dish mounted on the pole, we used 1000/61.5! I believe the manual said use a different setting with the KVH, since we are sitting in NC.

I may not understand the question, but we are tracking Sats 110 and 119.

When I bought mine, KVH warned not to get it close to the radar antenna/beam. We are using Direct TV.

I have the same seet up, an m3 with two HD dish network receivers. Where you are in the country determines which satellites you track. The installation book comes with a map and you can also call tech spot.

I anded up having to buy a separate switch for a few hundred bucks to be. Able to have two HD dish net receivers and can really only use one at a time. Not bad for my use but could be annoying if you have a big family.

Mine is mounted on my fly bridge hard top on a stub mast above the radar dome.

Mike,
Where did you find your KVH? Do you know of any other used ones for sale?
Thanks

Michael,

I bought mine at The GPS store in Ocean Isle, NC. I have not mounted the M3DX as of yet, but I have it sitting on the deck above the galley and we have been using it for the past couple of weeks. I love it. Setup took all of 15 min. KVH is giving away a Dish Network (211K) box if the M3DX by the end of June.

Mike,

I have the Intellian I2 with Dish Network and I track 110,119,and 129 on the boat, but I track the 61.5 array at home. I don't know why but that is how it was set up. Both seem to work in my area.

Thanks SKYCHENEY, I went with the same tracks.
