Just gets better!

Hi Guys,
Like many boat owners, I am very superstitious, so I was in a quandary whether to make this post! Sort of a "touch wood" moment!
But cannot help myself, when it comes to this boat it just keeps getting better!
Until now my top speed has been 17.4 kn.
However, carrying all that fuel from my long trip from Newcastle certainly made a difference, 1400 gallons in 5 tanks.
I have about half that now, and have moved the fuel around via the transfer pump, mainly to "polish" it through th 6 racors, also to balance the boat. Well, took her out on my own just to "clear" my mind a bit after a bad week and she got up and out of the water and just loved it. We hit 19.5 knots in 2 metres of swell. Comfortable, dry, wonderful boat! I'm still smilin'
Now gotta run to touch that wood, grab a rabbits foot (preferably detached from the rabbit) and make sure it stays this good!

Didn't realize you had that much extra fuel on that boat. You have a full length spray/lifting rail which will keep you dryer and will help her get up on top of the water a bit more. You also have light weight decking in the salon to help keep the weight down. She should cruise in the 17kt range and if all is right you should be able to break 20kts WOT. Have fun with her, she is a real prize.

More than you think. A lot have been shipped over seas in the last few years. I know of a 61MY and a 65SF that were shipped in the last few months

There are a few, some are actually built here!
In years gone by Bill Barry-Cotter (Riviera, Maritimo founder) built them under liscence.
These have a build plate on them explaining this. I believe they are mainly 52 conv.

Interesting... I remember reading about Hatteras yachts being built under license there, but I've never seen any photos. I think one of our forum members arranged the sale of one that was shipped there, or is going there, or something like it.

The boat Jim is referring to is a 1986 Hatt 63 MY with a Euro platform extension that I sold this year. She should be there by now.

The Series I 52C was built in Australia to Hatteras specs by the Co. that became Riviera. When Riviera first started marketing their boats in the US they were calling them "the Hatteras of Australia" until Hatteras put a stop to it.

Hi Jim,
Southern Cross were no relation to Riviera. I believe they were a Tom Fexas design and the ones I have seen were well built and good at sea. There are a few 50 plus footers around in various conditions. Company hit the wall years ago and the molds were for sale soon after.

I am pretty sure Southern Cross yachts were imported to Aus by Mike Gore. Mike was the colorful member of the white shoe brigade and promotor /developer of Sanctuary Cove at the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia.

Yes Jim , all of the above.

Most of them were very good salesmanship and visionaries who wore white shoes and fell out with their banks.
