52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
I have a Jabsco spotlight #62042 12v. I found they do not make the bulb anymore so L.B. Harvey in Miami thinks $289 would be a fair price for a lightbulb :rolleyes: . I need to find a source for these lights or install a new unit. Anyone else run in to this issue and did you find a resolution?
 
Go to a truck parts store. I bought a bulb for 9.99 for my One Mile Ray lite on my gas boat that was listed as a fire truck spot lite bulb ! GOOGLE fire truck parts! If that doesnt work, is it worth retrofitting a new socket? The can send those 299.00 bulbs to 'Frisco to replace gerbels-- theyre endangered you know :eek: My Jabsco lite was removed by the PO for plating, so I got a RCL 1000 but its 12V and the original was 32. Can anyone copy me a schematic for the rayline control? It would really simplify matters. ws
 
Alright Bill, my copier already knows how to make copies with your name on them. :D I'll get the schematic next weekend and copy it.

I found 32v bulbs online for mine, but I did have to buy that plastic knob from Harvey for something like $40. They are ridiculous on parts.



Did you check Sams for the 12v bulb? If Steve doesn't have it, maybe he can point you in the right direction.
 
Thanks Sky !! If you can scan it and email it that would be fine also ! I am still doing my best to find us some 24-54 volt voltmeters. Believe it or not, it is all consuming ! Can I offer you my third son?? We call this one "Sparky". ws

OK ... here's one for your talented minds. I also have this unit ... 12 volt ... the controller at the upper helm works perfectly ... the controller at the lower helm is confused ... lift the handle to raise the light and it turns to the left, lower the handle and it turns to the right, pushing the handle left or right moves the light up and down. I talked with a tech at Jabsco and he was no help ... wanted me to remove the controller and send it to them for analysis ... but getting mine out would require removing the teak paneling in the salon! The lower helm unit is the master and the upper helm unit is the slave. Anyone with any thoughts?
 
Bill, tell your dog that smoking will stunt his growth. He's not going to get any bigger unless he cuts down or quits altogether.

This one's easy! Turn the control 90 degrees and it'll work as you would expect, then turn the label plate to match the new orientation. It sounds like it works, but was just installed turned around. These are made to be installed with the handle pointing skyward, so if they're mounted sticking down from an overhead they'll always be backwards on one axis or the other. You could also change the wires inside to match the direction you wanted it to go since it's a purely mechanical switching device.

Doug ... that was my first solution ... however ... I cannot access the mounting bolt nuts nor connector without removing the salon teak paneling!!

Follow up.....Lewis Marine can get them for around $160. For a friggen light bulb :mad:
 
If I remember correctly, Jabsco controls use push on connectors. After time they become loose and can fall off. They also use a real simple contact method to operate the light. Remove the 3 screws that hold the joy stick in the dash and just gently pull the unit out. You can then mark the wire connection and colors down. You can't hurt any thing if you short the wires on the switch it will only make the light move. Remove the three flathead screws on the side of the joystick body and open it up exposing the brass contact strips. Clean them and reassemble the unit. You can gently squeeze the connectors so they fit tight if they are a loose slip on fit. If the light moves in the wrong direction at both controls then the problem is in the light connections not the joy stick. It's a real simple system and easy to work on.

They had the 32V version for the Jabsco searchlight two years ago for 18 bucks each. I haven't bought anything from them since then but they used to stock the strangest stuff!

This added later: Oops - memory problem again...The bulbs were 24 bucks each, not 18.
