  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
37' CONVERTIBLE (1977 - 1982)
Appreciate some input.

Background:On my 1979 37C port engine ran hot on longer trips. Came up the same but then passed 180 and then some and did not come down as fast at idle.

Decided to do Genesis's Ph ospho ric clean, after I replaced the impeller. Jabsco 17936-0001-P. Had been a couple of years. Took out impeller A. Put in brand new impeller B. Thought it stuck out a shade more than normal, but closed up fine. Started her up. Pumping good water but pump hot as hell!. Jeez, nothing is easy. Pulled out impeller (lost a screw) impeller melted on the end. Look inside and see what looked like a rubber washer grabbed it with needle nose and bushing C comes out in two pieces. (Long shot. Anyone know the part #? Jabsco 6408-0000 MECHANICAL SEAL????)

Well now what? Do I have to take the whole pump off? Does the new bushing just slide in first. Any thing else I should be concerned about?

The seal has a spring and must have been jammed. I'd pull the pump and do it right. The seal needs to be pressed in place. If you don't know what your doing send the pump out. Better than cooking an engine

The other half of the seal is still in the pump

Thanks. That is the other thing. The seal pulled out easily, did not feel like it was pressed in place. H
