Hatteras Model
38' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1972)
A local dealer has this boat for sale and is already telling me that it is rare Hat. Any one of the group know what might make this a 'rare' boat or are we into the salespitch already. It's in yachtworld and the boat is in Lasalle Mi.

We will not be able to see it until next week, so any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

They'll tell you anything - that's why they call them "Salesmen." Just check it out carefully. Usually you can find many examples of a particular boat on Yachtworld. In this case, there are 4 pages of 41s. Look at all the pics and you can get an idea if the particular example is "rare." Type in "Hatteras" in the manufacturer block and "41 to 41" in the length and have a look.

What is he saying is rare about it?

We haven't had a face to face discussion yet. I am going to ask him that very same question when we see the boat. I was hoping to learn before hand if the boat was 'rare' or just his sales pitch.

I saw that boat at Toledo Beach in a barn about 2 years ago. It looked as though it had alot of exterior work (paint, etc.), but I really did not pay close attention to it as I was not in the market at the time. My guess is that most of the work was performed there and the salesman is so proud of their work that he calls it "rare". I know of another Hatt that Toledo Beach Marine took on trade, a 53MY, that they "updated" in order to resell it. I didn't care for any of the so called updates including the new Hatteras bright white color that they painted her. So....be careful and have her checked out.

Thanks to all who replied. I really didn't think she was 'rare', but I thought I would ask just in case. I bought my current Hat at Toledo Beach but through the other dealership. Toledo Beach has an exclusive Hatteras dealership plus a regular broker.

So again many thanks

joe

I was just wondering if you have looked at that Hatteras yet and what condition it's in? I keep my 'rare' 1967 41' twin cabin nearby in Gibraltar,Mi.
Mike.
