Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Has anyone installed the Infinity woven vinyl flooring and if you have can you comment on quality and durability, before my wife spends a fortune on it. Thanks, John

We installed on our 63 ft Viking in the galley and heads. Absolutely LOVE the stuff. Very elegant and modernized look, soft and temperate under foot. Quiets the interior of the boat as well. Cleans up easily with no stains to spilled ketchup or wine. With ZERO experience, I did the install myself, after making patterns from red oxide paper. Very easy videos on youtube. Outline the pattern with red wax pencil, then cuts like butter with a good razor knife. Easy to then trim-fit into place. I loose layed it over the wood parquet in the galley, and removed the very dated mauve colored floor tile in the heads, installing directly over the subfloor.

I want to install in the enclosed flybridge as well, but just don't have the expertise for the more precise cutting necessary to get a seamless look around the numerous pedestals. For now, the remained of the roll is hiding behind the sofa in our salon, awaiting warmer weather and an experienced installer to do the work.

Originally, I thought I wanted the teak and holly looking product. An internet search brought me to "boat carpet sales" on ebay. He sells remnants (all 8.5 ft wide) for a fraction of the cost, including free shipping. I looked at samples at a local high end flooring store in our local Newport R.I., and decided the "diamonds" pattern had a classy look I would be happy with. I had to abandon the teak and holley look, because at 8.5 ft wide, I would not be able to run the pattern lengthwise, without seams, due to room size. To pay retail for a 15ft width from a regular source, was cost prohibitive for me.

In the end, I am extremely happy. The product does quiet the boat, and feels so good under-foot. Especially in the galley and heads. I can imagine how nice it will be in the flybridge when I finally get it done. Super easy to work with, Pretty darn Murphy-proof.

I have included a link to the website I found in searching before purchase. let me know if you have other questions or want pictures of our application.

First time posting photos on Sams, so I hope they turn out appropriate. I will have to post in 2 separate emails since apparently 3 are the limit. You can tell in the photos that I lifted the thresholds to expose the raw edges of the infinity. No fraying after 6 months of constant foot traffic. No stains either, despite the fact that we are shoe-wearing boat people with an 80 lb labrador on board. The larger galley piece, tended to migrate slightly, so I uses carpet tape around the corners to anchor it and have had no problems since. I cut the edges cleanly, and tucked under where I could for a finished look....fridge, compactor, dish washer, thresholds. Not sure if the next boat owner would be thrilled with the fact that I covered the (dated) parquet, I did not want to glue in place. Also, in the case of the master bath, there is a hatch that needs to remain accessible for the shower sump. Loose lay, taped in at corners was the best way. If I had wanted to pay a professional, I am sure he could have fitted it around the hatch and seamed the edges, but I didn't want it to look like a Regal or Chaparral. I wanted to maintain the look expected of a larger boat. I still contemplate the addition of a piece of quarter round along the toe kick in the galley for a bit more finish.

Many of my dock neighbors have it on their swim platforms and aft decks. The only complaint that I hear is that it gets REALLY hot in the sun. Too hot to walk on with bare feet.
