That's funny, Jeff. But you do have that Southern gentleman thing going on, so maybe it evens out. Maybe if you showed up with the white three-piece suit and the mint julep?
 
From an "ongoing maintenance" standpoint - going from a Hatt to an Eastbay is a leap from the frying pan to the fire. But, a smaller Eastbay could go in a covered shed slip which would make it a tad bit more forgiving.
 
Going from a 58lrc to anything smaller is going to be a letdown. Although I did a lot of work on a 46 gb europa and it was the nicest layout in its size plus could do some fishing. A bit privy but other than the outside teak she was low maintenance.

That 38 isn't too bad. The majority of the brightwork is in the enclosed helm area. You do have a varnished toe rail and the teak cockpit but it's an awful lot less boat to maintain than a 58LRC. This one always looks good. The cockpit is unstained so you just need to keep it clean.
 
I think the plan for the next few years is a boat that is much smaller and faster (33-45' and 25 knot + cruise). We're more concerned about getting from Point A to Point B for day trips or where we'll stay in hotels and B&B's. Mainly bay cruising during the summer and spring/fall fishing with the guys. Maybe a little offshore, but not big game. Unfortunately, just not enough hours available to spend multiple nights aboard in our current future.
 
Sounds like something like the Eastbay or small SF would work well for you. Tiara makes some nice express SF that are a nice combo of cruiser and SF. You have plenty of options. Have fun finding the one that best suits your needs.

Wasn't going to name other brands on the Hatteras site, but the Tiara 3600 Open is on my "short list".
 
A friend of mine picked up a new 35' with the pods. Loves it. As long as its a Tiara and not some boat that requires Hawaii 5-O clothing and gold necklaces - your ok by me!
 
Those Eastbays throw a wicked wake and all non owners hate them with a passion, I know one owner who just cannot understand all the fuss when he passes at 15 kts and the other boats almost flip...lol..

The only gold I have is in the safe! Even my wedding band and watches aren't gold.
That's said, I have had my eye on a two-tone YachtMaster!
 
Seems clear to me you need a gofast large enough to overnight on. Marina friends with a 60 foot yacht liked our 30 SonicSS, so they bought one to run around the bay on. They ended up loving the Sonic boat so much they left their 60 footer tied up in the marina, and took multiple day trips staying aboard the Sonic, just like we did, raving about how great the boat was for crusing and overnighting on. LOOK OUT THIS COULD HAPPEN TO YOU! <gg>

A nice lesiurely cruise at 30 to 50 knots, and getting 1.8 miles to the gallon on cheaper gasoline, ain't bad. Plus the severe deep v makes it suitable for cruising to Nantucket, Martha Vineyard etc. even when the 7 to 10 footers roll in and you simply have to get through it. Not fun, but the boat can take it and not kill you in the process.

As we all know, there is no perfect boat. Hatteras, Tiara, Intrepid, etc. they're all on the list! Love the Intrepid 377!
I'm in no hurry though. Just finished refurb'ing an old Whaler Montauk and about to repower it with a new 4 stroke. That'll give me something to mess around with in the sounds of the Outer Banks this summer while I continue to kick around ideas and wait for the right opportunity.

Re: Tiara, nice, but I have heard many times the pods can be expensive on maintenance, which negates the $ savings on fuel.
Re: Yachtmaster. Go for it!!! Mine was my 40th birthday present to myself (actually my wife "TOLD" me to do it) and next month is 16 years without a problem, except for one thing which is a long story

When you put it all down on paper, OBX, you have a leaning toward quality, so maybe what Jim said about that 3 piece white suit, a gold tipped cane and a little goatie beard would fit:D
 
a little late getting back...love the sabre too....pic was of a San Juan 38.
 
I think when I downsize it's gonna be a Hinckley. Total eye candy :)
