Idle rpm for 50 MY with 8V71n's seems high.

Mine idled high when I purchased it, and then I learned the previous "mechanic" did not properly set the idle machinery (it is a little complicated).

You should have a good DD mech fix it.

In my case, the high idle would drift downwards as I drove the boat, eventually going below 475 RPM and thus dying when I was maneuvering, which is hair-raising.

I would make sure the high idle is not to cover up another issue like broken buffer spring or other. preventing hunting and rolling, etc.

Mine is idling a smidge over 650 always steady never skips a beat. The only thing was, twice I didn't hold the shut off button and starboard fired right back up. Out of reaction I quickly put my finger back on the button. I've restarted since, after reading about running backwards I make a mental note to hold the shut down buttons for plenty of time.

Different topic but the only weird thing is port engine will every six seconds of so my port engine spits a bunch of coolant water out the exhaust. I'm seen gas engines do this but not as extreme. Starboard engine just always has a pretty steady flow.


The negative of a new toy is learning the quirks and characteristics of it. I wanna thank everyone again for helping a total newb. I'm really into cars and the forum support here beats any car specific forum I'm on.
