Hi All. My Glendining syncronizer has been shutting it self off at idle. Glendining says the issue is the master engine is idling slower than the slave. My mechanic set them both to about 500 rpm last summer, but I'd like to get the port engine up to 520 rpm to correct the issue if I can. The directions are a bit complicated for a novice and I'm 1200 miles from my mechanic. Can anyone give me a short cut? The engines are 6V92TA's at 425 HP, 1980. Thanks,

Bob

Behind and under the throttle lever on the governor there is a lock nut and screw that takes an allen wrench (internal spline). The screw will be sticking out about an inch from the locknut. This is the idle adjustment. There is ONLY ONE and the screw is less than 1/4" in diameter. It is NOT NOT NOT the screw on the right side of the governor casing and looks like a bolt (that's the buffer screw) Do not screw with the buffer screw! :->

Start engine, loosen locknut while holding idle screw, set idle by turning screw (it takes VERY LITTLE movement to make significant change.) Hold screw and tighten locknut. Done.

HOWEVER, this will likely dork with the buffer screw setting somewhat and it also screws with the booster spring setting somewhat. For what you're looking to do (20rpm) it shouldn't bother you.

Thanks Karl, I was hoping there was an easy way out.
