Before I tear the boat apart.......

Anyone know if there is a shutoff for the water line that runs to the ice maker in the Port side cabinet on the aft deck?

Thank you.

OK, looks like if there is one, it's above the ceiling in the hanging closet. Screws indicate removability. I pulled both outboard hatches in the closet and found interesting things but not what I was looking for.

I’ve never found one. I wish Hatteras would have installed shut offs on all sinks, showers and washing machine. It’s something I’m adding as I change plumbing.

Ah. I was afraid of that. So the next question is whether that line runs through the space above the closet? Would love to know before I take it apart. The rest of the story is that we don’t use enough ice to justify an ice maker. I’d rather have a small beverage fridge on the back deck. So I decided to take it out. Hah. Not so fast weedhopper. It was put in with 1/1000” tolerance on the wood frame and over time either the appliance or the wood swelled. NOT budging. Took numerous passes with a flat blade on the side to create enough clearance to wrestle it out. When it gets a little warmer I’ll redo the cabinet to fit a 2.5 cuft fridge and try to restore the woodwork best I can. It’s the only part of the boat that shows its age and water/UV damage.

If I remember correctly my ice maker is teed from the sink in same cabinet and somehow ends up in my stbd eng room to a 4way by my water heater. From what I can tell it leave the eng room thru the mid head ceiling but that’s as far as I checked, there were no factory shut off valves for anything.
I also want to put a small fridge in place of the ice maker but without any remodeling,i only found a few that would fit but they were almost $1k.

Yes it is T'd with the bar sink. The water goes to the filter and then out to the sink and the ice maker. If they didn't supply shutoff valves to the other plumbing, why would they have supplied one to the ice maker?:)

I did find an inexpensive (compared to U-Line) ice maker that fit in there just right.

For the mini fridge, I didn't have a port cabinet, so that was a perfect spot for a mini fridge. One of the most convenient upgrades.

the above post is correct, from the engine room thru the 2 heads and across the boat in the headliner. no shut off

HAH! You guys made me look again, and lo and behold the "T" is indeed under the sink. The thin line and "T" were completely hidden from view by the drain and supply line looking straight in at that height from the front. OK.... this is easy now. Remove the line and cap the "T". Awesome, thank you.

This was the last step before I winterize the potable water system.

Mine has two valves above the water heater in the engine room.
One valve for the aft ice maker / bar sink and one valve for the windshield washers.
The valves appear to be factory and labled.

I shut off the ice maker years ago. IMHO, the quality of the ice in that type of maker isn’t great. Better to buy a bag of ice and use the unit as an ice storage bin.

just pressurize the water system with non toxic antifreeze and force the icemaker thru a few cycles until it gets pink.......no need to turn off the water to it or pull it out of the cabinet.......Pat

I made it about 1/2 way tracing the water maker line.

It runs from the bar sink in the wall just under the fiberglass ledger that is under the salon wall. Runs from the bar across to a 90 turn above the Master head (The corner is about 4 x 2 inches outboard of outboard side of the show door. From there I believe it runs above the shows and headboard to directly above the starboard engine room heater.

Note it has a factory clamp about every 2 feet and a PIA.

My had a leak between the engine room and the bathroom and I re-routed the line to a SHUTOFF and easy drain point in under the master sink. There is no elegant spot to route from the ceiling down, pretty tight run to get it to the drain channel between the bathroom and the master stateroom.

I opted for an undersized (for the space - it holds plenty of soda, beer, and wine) Summit beverage fridge because I’m so happy with the Summit I put in the galley, figuring I would find some way to trim it in. Then I found the space next to it perfectly fits the suitcase that holds my do-everything socket and driver set. Now I’m thinking about the trim-in plan - that sure is a handy spot for that socket set...not pretty...but handy.

I use ours as a soda/beer cooler that makes its own ice.

Like I said.... I don't want an ice maker there, I'd rather have a small fridge. Which I just ordered and should be able to fit in there nicely.

What did you get to fit?

What did you get to fit?

Not installed yet....

If you look on Amazon for 2.4 to 2.5 cubic foot fridges there's a bunch. The rough opening is currently 27" tall, they all fit in that, with enough of a gap for airflow. Depth of the cabinet is 19" which is also plenty as it needs to stick out enough for the door to open.

Width is tricky. Opening now is 15". The fridge I got (see below)is 17.4" You can gain 3/4" on the right side by trimming the frame down to the panel that separates the two cabinets. On the left there is JUST enough material to trim down before you get to the curved section. There's a corner support piece in there to back the curve, it too will get smaller, and I may have to fabricate something there to maintain support.

Uline makes one that will fit.

You have a model #?

I see one 15" (wide) model but it is 33" tall. (HRE515) The current opening is 27". There is room to remove the bottom of the cabinet and go down to the deck (I don't know yet what this would do to the structural strength of the cabinet) IIRC there is no room to go up as you run into the bottom of the glass ware storage. Not sure if this would get you to 33", so right now I'm gonna say it does not fit in my cabinet. I don't see any others that would.

Not sure for your application. We replaced the Scottman icemakers on 53ED and 60MY with the Uline.
