hynautic helm question

sent the upper unit out for a rebuild, replaced the hoses up there too and now reading a number of the threads and posted instructions about the bleeding.
its a 3 line system. referring to the helm unit, not the bleeder block, some of the threads mention cracking the fittings and others mention bleed screws on the helm unit so im a bit confused.
my unit has 2 allenkey screw fitting on the opposite side of the unit from the hose fittings.
the other 2 sides have 2 large circular, what look like plugs.
there are no fitting on the bottom of the unit.
are the allenkey fittings the bleed screws ?

Under those Allen fittings are the check valves, please don't touch them.
Find your reservoir, keep it full & under pressure.
Usually, you are just needing to open the service screws on the service/pressure valve block and start cranking the steering wheel.

Some folks crack the line fittings at the highest steering pump, to help bleed out the air out of the lines quicker. You must keep an eye on the reservoir as it empties quickly of fluid and pressure while doing this. This may be quicker but subject to a mess as the fluid releases from the flare fitting.
Then start cranking the steering wheel over, over, over & over,, again watching that reservoir level.
Turn all other steering wheels and run the AP.

Finally, close the service screws.

the 4 nuts that are tightened down on the circular plate the steering staft comes thru on the dash,
is there a specific torque for them? i dont see any mentioned in the docs.
if not , how tight is tight?

The mounting bolts that hold the pump to the dash?
A good snug with out crushing the dash.

I just fixed a leak in my upper helm steering. The unit was sent out to have the seals replaced. After install you need to bleed the system of air by turning the wheel back and forth. On my boat the bleed nuts (two of them) where located at the stern if the boat near the rudders. There is a small junction type box. The nuts can be easily stripped so be gentle.

Yes, this is the pressure relief valve with service (by-pass) screws.
It can be difficult to find and reach on some boats.

You can bleed the system with out opening the relief valve in the block. Just keep turning the wheel once it hits the stop. Cracking the lines at the helms will save a lot of spinning of the wheel.

mission accomplished.

cracked the upper helm P/S hose connections till fluid came out.
retightened, refilled, pressurized and started wheel turning. about 50 slow rotations.
took about 1/2 quart of fluid.
