Hatteras Model
42' CONVERTIBLE (1971 - 1978)
Can anyone suggest what the external hull louvers I see on some 42C and 37C boats are for. Not the engine intake ones but further back, level with the forward cockpit. I have them on my boat and internally they exit into a dorade box with two upper hoses attached, the hoses on mine just lay loose under the cockpit floor.

Those vents should be for the engine room blowers

if the hoses are under the cockpit, they are there to vent the underside of the cockpit, not the engine room. my 46 had the same setup, it also had engine room blowers in the engine room

Not sure then as they could have been for the engine room but that would have required a hole through the aft eng. room bulkhead and I have not found evidence of that or they could be used for under cockpit ventilation but would that have been necessary? I thought the hoses should have been routed somewhere specific and was going to replace them.
Were the batteries originally located under the cockpit, they would require venting?

i was told by a very knowledgeable hatteras salesman that it was there for ventilating under the cockpit to prevent mold, and to keep things dry under the deck
