Well we went out to Cape Lookout again this weekend, leaving on Sat morning to stay until Mon. Anchored approx 4 to 500 yards off the beach which put us about the 2nd to last row before the entrance to the Bight which was perfect to dingy in for the beach and to take the dog in for his business. Had just finished a late dinner a little after 9 and my wife was in the galley cleaning up while I and a friend were relaxing on the aft deck scanning the horizon but not seeing much as it was dark out. Something catches my eye and I zero in on it, a dingy very low, loose heading towards the entrance with full current and wind keeping it well off the beach. Then I see something about 150 yds behing the dingy being carried to the entrance and out into the ocean. Yup it's an idiot thinking he could catch up to the dingy by swimming to it. I immediatly yelled to my wife to get my big flashlight as I didn't want to take my eyes off the guy. She comes up and I tell them to keep looking while I fire up the dink. Go to the guy 1st, who is exhausted, with no life preserver and pulled him in then go to his dingy which is empty! No outboard, no oars NOTHING!!! So I turn to the guy and say, WHAT WERE YOU GOING TO DO with nothing in here. Got a story that he used to be in the Navy and thought he would be able to swim it back. Tell ya what, he was lucky that night as there was nothing in his path out to the ocean. Got him back to a 34' ragboat, no George not the Canadians again, who hadn't even started to get rid of their anchor to go get the guy. He had to be out of their sight by the time I saw him. They were gone by the time I got up in the morning.
