Holding tank Pump out hose

About march, I replaced all of my hoses for my holding tank because my holding tank was hooked up as a fuel tank in it's previous life. I am having a smell problem from the pump out hose. I used the "premium" PVC sealand hose to hook it up, but it has yellowed. over the weekend I flushed back some water into the tank to make sure there was no waste left in the hose and the smell is now gone. What do I need to do? do I need to use some other type of hose for the pump out hose? This smell really stinks, and now that it is gone, I found that I need to do this ever time untill it gets fixed, but I would prefer to get it fixed because when the marina brings the pump out boat to pump out when I am not here, they will not flush it back.

My understanding is that SeaLand used to be the best hose, but they changed manufacturers some years back. The original manufacturer of what was the best hose on the market still makes it. It's out of Australia, but the name escapes me. It's not cheap, but it doesn't smell!

How about the OEM Trident Premium Waste hose? Hatt used it for years and it will last probably 15-20 years. I used it when I replaced my waste hoses last winter. It is easy to work with and it has a heavy sidewall. Many of the other "premium" hoses are really stiff and hard to get onto a fitting.

I just used that hard to work with stuff, and Skycheney ain't kidding. The stuff is stiff as an ibeam. But, maybe it's just wives' tale kinda peace of mind, but where it has that white shiny surface it's hard to imagine it getting any porosity enough to permeate the hose with the bad stuff. Of course, eventually it does, but it'll go quite a while. Being shiny white, it also looks good in the engine room.

The Trident hose and Sealand hose that I used look exactly the same. I shopped two places and I purchased it from the cheaper place for obvious reasons. It is the same stuff that West Marine sells too. What is odd is that it has yellowed. I really do not understand, but I guess I will replace it again adn see what happens. The origional hose in the boat for the heads was an odd very thin wall hose with reinforced coils that were plastic. I do not know what was used for thepump out since it was changed to a fuel fill. The stuff I used was the very hard to work with white PVC. It had a sealand label on the box.

The Trident hose now comes in either the traditional black or white(new). I bought the white stuff from BoatFix. It was exactly like the old black hose that I took out. It had the same double wire reinforcement and outside labeling. The only difference was the color.

What is odd is that it has yellowed.

Is it possible that there was still some fuel left in the system? Petroleum and vinyl are incompatible.

I guess that it is possible there was a little bit of fuel. I flushed the tank before hand, but there is no telling. I have alittle extra hose, and it should be enough to change the pump out hose again. May be that is whey it discolored and smells through.

The sealand hose has to be warmed and rotated counterclockwise to get it on the fitting properly.
