Carl, I knew you wouldn't mind less than "Palm Beach" condition but our bird friend likes to critique others' boats (even though his never quite make it to the get-togethers?) so I figured that it would be in my best interest to beat him to the punch line and make it perfectly clear that I make no promises of a pristine vessel. Now, you want to talk disco-ball parties and such, we run with the BIG DOGS and are the big dogs in our little part of the world (Madisonville, LA). Melissa and I do not have any kids to scare or corrupt their impressionable minds, so you'll have to make sure all your little ones are put to bed when you come party on Sweet Melissa! We are not responsible for what impressionable minds learn from observing a party on board. Nothing illegal or immoral mind you, just some adults who never forgot how to have BIG fun! As long as you like vodka or beer, we are most certainly always well stocked. I sure hope we can put something together!

Now Byron, I have never met a member for any other reason than to share a few laughs and talk about boats. I have never asked nor has anyone ever asked me about financial status or boat condition as to determine whether or not a meeting would be beneficial. I have always enjoyed sparring with you on here, but I enjoyed your company even more in person at FLIBS. You were the first member who saw through my dumb ole' country boy act, remember the PM? ;)

I made the statement in an earlier thread that I have probably been on more members boats than any other member of this forum. I never once contacted anyone just to get to look at the condition of their Hatteras. I made the effort based on their personality and common interests. Some of my closest friends are those who have boats in worse shape than mine, others have boats which make me jealous. Bottom line is, the boat does not make the person or vice versa. It's just the common thread that put us together, that's all.

With that said, if your boat is not really clean inside and out, I will take pictures and post them on here any time I hear you comment about maintenance! :p

"Carl, I knew you wouldn't mind less than "Palm Beach" condition but our bird friend likes to critique others' boats (even though his never quite make it to the get-togethers?)"

let em guess, has he called your boat "a beat up old Hatteras" too ?

Let's try to keep this thread on topic, shall we?

Hope you can make the trip Pascal. Maybe you and Angela can lead the way and bring all the other members in the Miami with you. That would make for one heck of a show huh?

I really would like to be able to bring one of my two Hatts down just to prove that I do indeed own one! One is pristine, the other is far from that, but as is the case with all of our boats, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Mr. Moderator:

Was there some reason that you felt compelled to take a personal attack on Freebird so as to de-rail this thread? It is a very surprising concept that a "Moderator" who is supposed to be neutral would actually go out of one's way to commence a personal attack thereby leaving Freebird no alternative but to respond in like fashion. Doug the owner may be very saddened at the way things have gone - let me tell you that he, along with anyone else reading this thread, should be thoroughly disgusted with your unnecessary personal attack. With moderators like you on the site, I for one have made my decision to de-register from this site and it has nothing to do with Freebird and everything to do with the way you have failed to handle yourself in a businesslike and professional manner in the capacity that you have been granted by the owner.

Randy, No problems here bud! I know you were (half) messing with me about critiquing my boat, that's why I decided to get it out in the open 'cause I wouldn't want you to be surprised when you see that she is less than bristol when it comes to cosmetics.

Now, as far as mechanical maintenance I'M READY FOR YOU but as far as cosmetic mintenance, nothing doing. Notice, nearly all of my comments with respect to maintenance and repairs are mechanical/technical in nature. I do not profess to know the proper way to detail a boat, re-chrome hardware, keep sparkling-white bilges, etc. I DO have a pretty good handle on things that help keep a boat running in tip-top condition, which has absolutely nothing to do with cosmetics. Some Hatt owners were fortunate enough to be able to pay top dollar for an older boat that is in pristine condition. That is NOT how I bought this boat. I bought this boat in excellent mechanical condition and the cosmetics were only fair. I jumped on board and completed a 800nm run without so much as turning a wrench on the entire cruise. I changed the fuel filters ONCE just because I wanted to (before the 145nm jump from Clearwater to Apalachicola) even though I had TWO CASES of Racors and TWO CASES of secondaries on board "just in case". By the way, anybody want to buy some filters??

I agree with you that when it all boils down to it the condition of the boat matters not, it's the fact that we all love our Hatteras' equally. :D

Hey, since we're such good friends and all, I'll be more than happy to toss you a line as I pass Riviera Dunes marina and tow Freebird to the HOF Rendezvous to help you prove yourself to the nay-sayers. Of course, you'll have to wait until late June until I can tow you back! ;) I know, I know. You can and have proved that you are not scared to run her on one engine which is more than I can say for many. My Hatt is off to you no matter who's boat you're on!

Eclipsarkanna, Whadda ya mean you're signing off? You just got here! I would politely suggest that you let Randy and others (Moderator or not) do their thing. They have and will continue to pick at each other and it is of little concern to us, other than the entertainment value. Jump in on a little good-natured poking if you wish, but I would be VERY CAREFUL how I address the Moderators because no matter what, they are the Moderators and what they say goes. Their position was chosen by the powers that be and who are we to judge them on their own site? Don't let any one particular person's comments run you off a site that could otherwise benefit you greatly. I know you haven't been here very long but I hope that you stick around and enjoy.

Blew a shifter slave seal on the way across and you should have heard what the lock guys had to say when I told them I was coming in with one engine. That was a son of an itch with Sunday traffic. We cleared the last 2 on Tuesday so it was not so bad then.

Eclips don't go in the dark , don't leave us ;) Thies guys are always haggeling at each other it's what makes this forum fun. they are so much like Brothers, just wait till we get them in the mud :D You can't take the jabs or digs personal just ask Angela , Byron and many other members ,the BIRDS always ruffeling some feathers ;)

Todd,
I ran 1300 mi and 6 locks on one engine. I got all kind of comments. The Alligator River bridge tender asked if I wanted her to call the yard for a mechanic. I said no thanks and added that I would fix it in FL. Her reply was goood luck I hope you make it! Heck if the trawlers can do it so can we!

Hey I got a call from Trojan Bill he's in town and where going to ge together for a beer Sunday late afternoon :) one more would make a mini rendezvous? :D I should be grilling some fresh king fish...

Yeah I had to do it twice so most of us can do it.
BUT I still have NEVER seen a Bird fly with one wing that I got to see

Does anyone have an update on the rendezvouz, is the bird still going to play?

So the 'bird is now seen but not heard...

Well Ill say for The Bird that He still wants to see this Happen and promised not to bring a Keyboard which is when he does his most damage. So this is set for Fl so does someone in Fl want to take the Bull by its Horns

It looks as though I'll be heading to FL on business several times over the next 3-4 months. Has a date been discussed?

Allright I thougth freebird was a PITA and went to apologize on teh junenille behavior post but is was closed. I think maybe I was a little to hard on that guy.

Live from the basement, it's that PITA Freebird!

Hey man, you had absolutely nothing to do with me leaving the surface of the forum. At least you had the guts to speak your mind instead of using the PM function to complain to Doug. I admire that.

Would you believe I have NEVER gotten a PM from a member of this forum which was negative? Pascal always talks about the "silent majority" who hates me, but how the hell do I know that?

Hee hee, it would be pointless, but I wish somebody would ask the question if PM's are able to be monitored to back up what I just told you!

Hell son, this was not a popularity contest for me, I just enjoy hanging out with fellow boat nuts! The real value of this forum for me has been to meet in person many of its members. I'd still like to add your name to the list if you're interested. Drop me a PM anytime, or don't, no big deal.

Take care and go out there and participate by telling folks about things that are of interest to you. There are some really great guys on the forum.

Randy
