  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1983 - 1987)
Took an end cap off my heat exchanger Saturday and this is what I found. Cleaned the cap and end of the exchanger, runs cooler. What do you think the other end might look like?
I did the other engine 2 years ago. Had the core dipped the whole nine yards. This was just a quickie
job and it runs cooler than the one I had dipped.
Before I bought the boat it sat for 3 or 4 years with little use, I've had it 2.
Cleaning of the Oil coolers and transmission coolers are next. I'll take pics. 30 year old boat, I love it.

Holly cow, what motors do you have.

3208's turbo 355 hp. 2000 hrs

That looks like the right side or turn around end. The inlet side might be worse and plugged with impeller parts.

looking at the front of the engine this was on the left side, where the zinc is.

she would still run 18 knots all day and not overheat.

Don't you have zinc anodes on the inlet side as well?

no just one end

Time for the OSPHO treatment and maybe not take everything apart! I did both motors last winter. Lots of gunk out of one, other was clean.

You sure have a bunch of broken off zincs. I watch mine very closely because of that.

I did the other engine when I bought it 2 yrs ago, same number of broken off zincs. Took me 2 yrs to get to this one.i know the boat was used very little when I bought her, been owned by one owner for 17 years . In the middle of having starbord starter rebuilt. Got some work ahead but very Happy camper so far. Love my boat.
