Heat Exchanger Gaskets

First off I appreciate any help anyone offer. 8v71N raw water intake and export by the heat exchanger needs new gaskets. They are the 3 -3.5 in square gaskets. Does anyone know where I can purchase these our recommend an acceptable gasket maker that will stand up to the heat and saltwater

There's more than just 3 gaskets there.

If it's the square Detroit there O rings and other parts to deal with too.

*IF* the heat exchanger is a Sen-Dur part you can get the gaskets from them.

I got the HE set from Atlantic Diesel on Long Island when we lived there. On Kent Island, the local diesel shop got a set in a day. So it shouldn't be difficult to get a set. If you are so inclined, you can easily make the square gaskets with gasket paper (many old time mechanics never stocked paper gaskets, they just made them as needed using gasket paper/a ball peen hammer). That method seems perfectly appropriate for working on a 1930's technology DD motor! The rubber donuts can be reused many times if they are not brittle/cracked.

I've pulled the HE's multiple times since I bought the last set of gaskets back around '09 and have reused the donuts/made the paper gaskets.

You can get the gaskets and seals at most any DDA dealer by giving them your engine serial number. Always use new gaskets, O rings and rubber donuts.
