Headliner

I don't think you use anything between the pannels. I think you want to butt them up together so tight that you do not have to worry about seams. then you would use the hideum strip on the edge if necisary. If the backing is perfect, there woudl be no reason to have any hidum strip either.

what did you use between the panels? is that hidem or a plastic "T" material?

CORRECT that is why the coraplas was a PITA it was had to get a good straight edge. Mine came out good with only a very few spaces and the Admiral says your the only one that see them  When we do your own work we usually are the worst critic.

Dan,

Did you use industrial velcor (the hard stuff) or did you use regular velcro? Plus, how did you attach the veclro to the pannels, was it self adheasive?

I have a '66 41TC and my headliner is not perforated. It has an embossed star pattern. Does this mean it was replaced at one time?
Hi Leeward,

Your headliner might be original, as I was asking myself the same question: my '63 34DC also has an embossed star pattern in its non perforated headliner. So it may just be early Hatt issue?

Well better late then never Thank Rich for me seeing this.
YES to the Industrial they called it the aggressive hook. I used the stuff with glue but also added contact cement coating each side let dry then apply, I then used stainless staple on each side.

We now have a good but limited stock of ivory non-perforated headliner that we will be able to offer at less than retail pricing. This is the same headliner used by Hatteras. The part number is 94423 and it comes in five foot widths, fifty yards to a roll.

If purchased by the roll, the price is $7.75 per yard. If purchased by the yard, the price is $9.75 per yard.

The headliner is in stock in both NC and Fort Lauderdale locations while it lasts.

Rejuvenating headliners: one of the guys in our Classic Yacht Club had this problem with the old headliner on a 52 ChrisCraft Connie. The headliner was discolored but otherwise in good shape.

He painted it, with a roller and interior latex. It came out beautiful. It still looks great. I couldn't believe it, but it worked fine. Total investment was probably about thirty bucks, tape included.

I realize that this sounds crazy, but there it is....

Sounds kinda radical, but it's his boat I guess. I have, however used a little white shoe polish on a couple of small discolored spots. Thinned it down a little and made a couple of applications. Can't see where the spot is (was) now.

You would not believe how well it turned out. I was sure he was kidding; he wasn't. It will probably hold up for quite a while. I am thinking about doing it in my boat as the fabric is fine, it just shows some stains from PO wood refinishing. Oh, and the holes don't get covered up either, if you use a foam roller that doesn't hold a ton of paint. He said the biggest headache was taping things off and draping painters cloths all over the salon.

My brother years back on a old Chris Craft painted his also. It was in great shape just stained and a little yellow painted it and it looked GREAT. I guess if your thinking of redoing it just paint one section and if you don't like it ripe it out! ;)

How wide is the material and how many yeards to a roll?

We need to do just the salon as we are taking out the console over the lower station as part of redecorating. Are there people who do this for a living? Where to find them?

Thanks. Does one need to get new plywood to back it up? It looks like that will require 10' pieces. Where can you get it?

You may have already handled this problem but just a thought. There is a product available that you fog into a/c ducts and homes that kills the mold and bacteria that causes different odors also to eliminate the chance of it coming back, kill the problem at the root. I am NOT trying to sell you anything LOL I just have experience in mold removal. I am also in Florida and would be happy to help in anyway possible just email me.

Good Luck!

Just got around to seeing your response. Thanks, Richard. On these older Hatts, it's good to know what's original and what's not.
