Did the news reporter ACTUALLY call it an 18' boat ??

A shame, and it took at least another big boat with it. The sailboat next to it looks totally gone as well. Does anyone know anything else about "Montana Moon"?

In 2011 it was for sale through Ardell for 3.3 million. She was a 1995 Hatteras tri-deck, 118 feet, with (according to articles I found) three 12-92 DDECs. There was another listing for sale at 1.95 million, but I could not find a date on that one.

Sad all around.

I mentioned this today to a broker friend of mine in Ft Laudedale. I ran through some of this yacht's former names and when I got 2 names back he said "she ran up on a reef and sank a few years back". Perhaps she had some left over salt-water-intrustion wiring issues?

We saw it burning and from what Bruce told us, that boat has had a very sad history. If you believe in jinxes or bad Karma, this would be the vessel that provided proof. She tore her running gear on her maiden voyage when the owner's son ran her onto a reef and that may have been one of her better days! (The owner immediately a new 131')

Saw the hulk two days ago and she is burned down past the deck. The sail boat, which is steel is totaled as well. There was a dinner cruise boat on the other side that had all the windows blown out and suffered some serious hull damage too.

It will be interesting to learn how it shakes out insurance wise. No shore power and she had been sitting there for many months. The rumor is they found footprints in the dirt coming out of the woods leading to her...

I have to say, you put a "For Sale" sign on a boat and they instantly become far less watertight AND far more fire-prone. Astonishing. Or, as Mr. Spock would say, "fascinating".

If this boat did sink, though, you would expect electrical problems unless they had completely removed all the old wiring and replaced it with new. If it happened when she was brand new, her value as a new boat might have justified that.

I don't think the first mishap sunk her. There were purportedly several other "severe water events" and I believe the wiring was never replaced.

I gotta go with Spock on this one.
