Hatteras Wanted - Pristine Condition

less wear and tear on NE bats because they only get a half a year of use but the trip up can be great.

You better check the clearance as there are a number of fixed bridges on the way to the Great Lakes. I believe the maximum clearance is about 19'. Also, have you given any consideration to a Northeast boat? Less wear and tear on just getting her home.
There is a railroad bridge that has a published clearance of 21.5 ft but is usually around 25 ft during the summer. Most other bridges are 23 ft (published clearance) or better. Spring time is the worse because canal levels are the highest. Fall can be good providing there hasn't been heavy rains. Very large (100ft +) yachts transit the Canal regularly. You would have to take the route up the Hudson through the federal lock in Troy NY, then take the Erie Canal west to Oneida Lake. Cross the lake follow the Three rivers portion of the Canal to Oswego NY, and your in Lake Ontario. Very nice trip, but no good if your boat has a tower.

Bit of an update, economy up my way has continued to deteriorate, businesses are still failing, mfg. sector at lowest productions, etc. and no one buying my house.
I guess I'm going to miss out having a HATT this season. If my house sells, I have a couple HATT's picked out to get serious about and I may even have the time to cruise her back some of the way. Otherwise, I have my bassboat to keep me on the water this summer.
I really don't think the gov't bailouts in the auto sector will turn anything around this year in the economy, too much damage has been done.

But a lot of us still do more mileage then you Southern Intercoastal cruisers ;)

Us Southeners dont cruise the ICW, It's them damn yankees. You know the ones, they like to gripe about us but will not leave. :D

I thought the intercoastal was where we anchor out and let the ladies tan topless. How could you cruise there? It's like a freaken highway. Sort of like the LIE at rush hour.

Sorry guys but no pictures or the mods may bump me off the thread

Well, it looks like you may have to let this thread die and start a new one. The "Hatteras Wanted - Pristine Condition" seems to no longer apply.

"Pristine" has cost the previous/current owner a lot of time, money, and TLC. Time for a new thread.

BTY....not trying to minimize your hurt.....we're all there.

Yes Jo, I agree. I'll start a new thread when I'm able to follow through with my intentions. I'm very surprised my house didn't sell and I'm surprised that the recession has had such an effect in the Province of Ontario. It hit us here much later than it did in the USA. Our banks are fine but the steel and auto industries, forestry, petrochemical and numerous manufacturing sectors have laid off an amazing number of employees giving us over 8% unemployment.
If anyone wants to move up here, hop onto your HAT, cruise up and I'll trade you my house for it which comes with Canadian Residency and free Social Medical Plans. ;)

Meantime, this thread is closed until something good happens and I'll live vicariously through the HAT owners posts.

Jo, I'd trade my house for your Rusty Bucket in a New York minute, she's beautiful.

Hello,

I am new to this site and noticed your post for a Great Lakes boat. I have a Hatteras that might be of interest. Since I am new and have not made 15 posts yet I cannot post my website which has pictures and details. If you have an interest you can call me at 216-383-6803 and I can direct you to the site.

Thanks,

Dennis

It was suggested I let this thread die off but I'm still here. Been a bad year to sell anything, so I didn't. Good year to buy/bad yr to sell, businesses have been off and I'm standing my ground, still at home and kinda resolved to stay here another 10 months or so.

But my intentions remain the same to give up my soil for water, with a Hatt floating home on the Great Lakes. Not many Hatts near me, seen a couple, looked at some trawlers too... and I've sure learned alot about quality, testing, reading & understanding technical, mechanical & maintenance requirements. Most of what I've learned about the above are from others experiences from this site and where their links took me. I've looked at and read about every HATT I could possibly find on the internet! I've studied the Hatteras history, models, support etc and have done various comparisons.

I'm greatful to the members here that supported me, answering my questions, looking at boats for me, showing me their boats through pictures & emails. I'm gonna join you gentlemen and ladies on the water eventually......... in a HATTERAS! :)

PS: still looking too from 48'-50' liveaboards.
