There is a railroad bridge that has a published clearance of 21.5 ft but is usually around 25 ft during the summer. Most other bridges are 23 ft (published clearance) or better. Spring time is the worse because canal levels are the highest. Fall can be good providing there hasn't been heavy rains. Very large (100ft +) yachts transit the Canal regularly. You would have to take the route up the Hudson through the federal lock in Troy NY, then take the Erie Canal west to Oneida Lake. Cross the lake follow the Three rivers portion of the Canal to Oswego NY, and your in Lake Ontario. Very nice trip, but no good if your boat has a tower. You better check the clearance as there are a number of fixed bridges on the way to the Great Lakes. I believe the maximum clearance is about 19'. Also, have you given any consideration to a Northeast boat? Less wear and tear on just getting her home.
less wear and tear on NE bats because they only get a half a year of use but the trip up can be great.
But a lot of us still do more mileage then you Southern Intercoastal cruisers![]()
Bit of an update, economy up my way has continued to deteriorate, businesses are still failing, mfg. sector at lowest productions, etc. and no one buying my house.
I guess I'm going to miss out having a HATT this season. If my house sells, I have a couple HATT's picked out to get serious about and I may even have the time to cruise her back some of the way. Otherwise, I have my bassboat to keep me on the water this summer.
I really don't think the gov't bailouts in the auto sector will turn anything around this year in the economy, too much damage has been done.
