Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
Photos on FB Hatteras Owners page of a Hatteras convertible on the rocks surrounding a fixed marker, and then of it capsized and sunk. Anyone know any more about it?

Pics look like a 52C

What a damn shame. The end of a beautiful boat.

Auto-pilot and GPS really put it on the mark, Uh?

I don't know how this occurred. They had high winds up there- I wonder if she dragged her anchor or got loose off a mooring? These boats aren't usually kept on moorings, though.

And another one beached in Pensacola

Years ago I watched a 58 Viking run up on the reef at Man of war coming back from offshore. They blew by me with everyone standing in the cockpit and no one at the helm. That night every thief with a boat was out there stripping it. It was on the reef so hard it took days to get it off. It laid in that yard south of boat harbor for years.

I'm pretty sure that is owned by a guy named Mario. He's had it for around twenty years. I was at a marina with him around 2000 2001 and he called my boat and a 53 MY also there heapsters because ours weren't as new as his. It been for sale many times under his ownership. It was quite cramped for a 52 as I recall. light ash interior. 892 power I believe. Not a victim of wind or seas, it was driven onto the rocks from what I've heard.

A sixteen meter Hatteras sportfish yacht titled Rae Mar ended aground and then sank near Boston, in Massachusetts, on the morning of Saturday 23 September. The cause of the collision and grounding are not reported, with the situation getting worse as the sportfish later sank, probably due to high tide coming in. Some unconfirmed reports are saying the sportfish yacht was on a sea trial at the time of the accident. It is a strange turn of events to what looks a visible islet. This Hatteras sportfish yacht was advertised for sale at the time of the collision.
Rae Mar is a 1989 Hatteras 52 Convertible powered by twin 735hp Detroit engines. As all Hatteras up till the nineties the 52 Convertible is a design of Jack Hargrave, who presented a two or three cabin layout choice, and a modified Vee hull closing rather flat to aft. Launching in 1982 the Hatteras 52 Convertible received a look upgrade in side windows and flybridge in 1986. Produced till 1990 the 52 Convertible was a replacement to the 53 Convertible and was replaced by the 54 Convertible series I.
