Hatteras remote speakers

Getting settled into our 1985 61MY and none of the speakers in any of the other rooms besides the surround in the salon are working. I can't believe all speakers or volume controls are bad but it is a boat.
I pulled the newer Sony stereo out and see a speaker connection bar with all the speaker wires going to it. There are two wires coming off the bar to the center channel of the sony. I have taken a set of speaker wires that say they are to the galley and hooked them directly to the stereo and still get nothing.
Is there a specific side or place to hook into the speaker bar from the stereo?
Do I need to clean all the volume pots in all the rooms? It seems very basic but no luck from me or obviously the previous owner.

if those speakers are original, they are 25 years old, and could be dry rotted. any power put to them could cause them to blow. bigbill

Is there a amplifier on the vessel. Maybe the sony can not push the speakers. Take all speakers off and just put one set on maybe a set that you know works that did not come from the vessel. Maybe the head unit is not working. I would need more information on the setup. You may need another setting on the sony other than surround sound. The speakers will not work in surround mode. I would need further info. First try channel A with a set of speakers that you know work. Gina Marie

I'm about to change out the original (31 year old) speakers and volume rheostats in each stateroom as well. Some crackle badly, while others have stopped working all together. Looking forward to providing some great sounding tunes awaiting guests when they arrive!

Spend a few bucks, replace the rheostats and put some JBL's in. You'll be very happy!

I just installed a Niles volume control on my fly bridge hooked up to an HDMI Yamaha receiver with iPod dock and XM sat radio. Nice piece, solid state, impedance matching, muting (with 12 volt DC), but as the Mayor in Animal House once said, "you must pay."

I recommend disconnecting the original Hatt speakers. Way outdated by today's standards. I know they look pretty, but sound........well.......put in some zone amplifiers....lose the 12 volt stuff, again overpriced IMO "you must pay"

We always have 110 volts to run the TV and tunes.

I installed Boston Acoustics Voyager 5 speakers in their own enclosures. Fantastic acoustic suspension sound that you just won't get by replacing the tiny Hatt speakers.
