Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
Wow,

I am fired up about this. My 1985 45C would be a perfect fit. I am thinking that Hatteras would be excited for someone exactly like me to offer them my worn but beloved sportfish for some great before and after shots. I also will promise to sing their praises at any dock, anywhere, anytime, ha,ha. It could be like a Pimp My Hat show. Champagne in the live wells.........

Actually, it is really cool, I am just envious. I think that being the project manager for the refit department at Hatteras (sportfish division) would be my dream job. Here is the link for anyone interested (but don't steal my idea about being the poster child for the refit department....ha ha)

My boats older than yours, maybe they'll pick me first :)

Mines a 1966 and smaller so they would have to do less. PICK ME PICK ME!!!

I think they may be desperate for cash. This has been suggested to them for a long time. Their massive layoffs have caused a significant ripple in the local economy. It's sad really.

If they could take that show on the road - that would be something to think about. They know the dimensions, prefab as much as possible the upgrade, then show up in a rig and install in your local yard. I would think the travel to Hatteras would be a deal breaker for a lot of potential refits in the smaller sizes (under 70'???).

If the engines run its cheaper to bring the boat to them.

When I have guys on the road I pay over $200 per day for hotel, food etc per worker. Put a 3 man team on the road for 2 weeks that's $600 per day x 15 days plus travel, vehicles and miscellaneous. About $10K extra plus the travel time. I would rather get the boat to them and have it "home for the refit"

I'm sure that if you want a re-fit they will come and pick up the boat and deliver it back to you when they are finished (for a price).

A few years back there was a tidy little industry here (New Bern) for people who worked at Hatteras to work as the "Midnight Crew" after hours on boats that came here. I managed several large projects and refits in this manner.

I would work with owners to develop realistic expectations and a workable budget. As a captain and project manager, I would pick up the boat, find the best location either in or out of the water, hire local tallent, and make sure the project came in on time at or under budget. The end result always wowwed the owner. Some times the owners would come here to get the boat or I would deliver it home.

It was a lot of fun and somedays I miss it.

I sent them an email to get some more information. I am seriously considering having them give me a rough estimate for my laundry list (not a refit) of items if:

1. The work is quality
2. The prices are "reasonable" (by reasonable - I realize that they will be much more expensive than yard rats, but I am willing to pay the premium if the work is quality)
3. They can perform my entire list of tasks"one stop shopping"
and
4. It can be done in a reasonable time and not spaced out or around other work.

Anybody hear of others using them yet? Were they happy with the results?

Sorry man, the "Pimp My Hatt" idea was mine a long time ago. What better boat could they choose than the mighty, Freebird, the most famousest Hatt on the planet?

Maybe I should have YottsmanWillie send in his photo collection of my velvet Elvis interior. They would probably do mine for free if I agreed never to post those pictures again.

Actually, I got that same email, but I can only imagine how much they would charge for a total refurb. No doubt they would do top notch work, but I have to wonder how competitive they would be with other well known yards.

A friend inquired about the cost of a repower, They responded that he should call marinemax.

Ah shucks! I actually heard Aretha singing as I read your post. :D

Actually, there was a refit of a boat on HGTV a while back. I've seriously considered contacting those folks to see if they would want to take on my 58. Hey, it couldn't hurt!

I sent an inquiry on a repower and go NO RESPONSE!

From what I understand, repowering is not their thing.

I sent request for info on cosmetic work...no response as yet...

I definitely should win it. I have Hull No. 1 of the 50 ft Motoryacht. Just saying.

This was brought up a few years ago.
Wasn't the deal then that Hatt isn't interested in working on anything under 100'?

You'd be better off with Slane Marine or Jarrett Bay. I wish HY well, but they seem to be going through a difficult patch, with the company publicly for sale and no clear buyer. I don't think they would attempt something like this right now.

My friend had them look at his 65 LRC and they said it would have to be a total re-fit for them to consider it and 7 digits. I know they did the first 100 footer. I wonder how many they did since 2009? They still have the web page up?
And . . . they should pick old Skooch for the advertising since she went around the world and certainly needs work! Yacht Crashers!
Skooch
