Hatteras 53 Convertibles

I am still looking for the right Hatteras to ship back to Australia and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Any background information on these two Hatteras 53 Convertibles please?

YW# 1817-2057110 looks very nice. I do not see any mention of work to the engines ... are they original without overhaul?

I have similar engines (12V71TI but 850hp) ... they lasted 4500 hours.

Hi Bayside, I believe they have under 2000hrs.
Agree with you, very nice boat, in the pictures anyway. Awaiting history report.

Looks like both are galley down and not as desireable as a 3 sr plan.

Those are both very pretty boats. The first one would be my choice. No riggers and no tower! FWIW, the galley down/2 SR to me- is a plus. First boat has been for sale since Jan 2010. Price started at $269K. Second boat is also very attractive and has been for sale since April 2009. Price started at $270K. Inasmuch as there are almost no buyers for big old sportfish boats, I bet you could make a nice buy on either one. Don't be bashful about making a low offer.

The light blue, done by Merritt seems to have the most work done, however needs a lot to make ready, electronics, davit outriggers etc.
Any other comments or suggested 53 or 55 Cv appreciated.

There is a 74 in S fla that keeps coming up for sale ask was $84 needed some cosmetics but realy not that bad. What are you looking for charter boat? cheap fixer upper or custom show piece?Their all out there. One thing about the 12/n's their pretty much bullet proof.

I am looking for a family boat that is tough, low maintenance, great deep sea fishing and capable of long cruises.No need for a "show piece", just a good boat that does not need a fix-up.
Been there, done that and learnt it is never cheap or quick.
We like to have our holidays on the boat and take 2 or 3 weeks cruising and fishing in Moreton Bay and offshore South East Queensland.
I will give Jarret Bay a call ASAP.

Ive run my 50 which is pretty much the same boat for 34 years and almost 9000 hours Its one of the toughest boats ever made. I have never had either of the detroits let me down and that goes for the alison mh gears also. It is wet'r than a submarine but it will never pound. I fish hard and chartered the boat for a lot of years. I personaly dont like the galley down because you lose the extra stateroom. Also if you have someone that has a weak stomach and they go down to the galley its all over. I like the galley up because you can get something to eat and still watch the baits. I fish the boat with 3 people and with cockpit controls it works fine.Figure 2 gal/mi cruise at 2100rpm 18kts and about 1gal/mi trolling at 850rpm8-9 kts. One of the PITA's is having to switch fuel tanks in the engine room. The 3 fuel tanks are right down the middle of the hull and is almost like balast keeping the boat stable.You wont win any races but no matter the sea conditions you'll always make it home.

my dad had a friend in Australia named Neville Greene had a boat called xzphias hunter he was supposed to be somewhat of a legend in the 70's we were always supposed to go down to fish with him but never made it.Don't know if he is still around or not.

I was in Zimbabwe in the 70's, then Rhodesia, so although I am a "True Blue Aussie" now, was not living anywhere near an ocean then. Had some great fishing though in Lake Kariba (Tigerfish) and used to go to Mocambique to fish off Bazaruto on old wooden gamefish boats. Never got a marlin but there were some awesome catches (BIG Blacks) then around Santa Carolina in the warm current. Lots of sharks, mahi etc.

If you consider any other boats, Here is a link to my 50' Bertram which I am selling. It has a tower but I have used it for family cruising with my wife and two kids (now 5 and 8). Galley up, two queen births, one double bunk birth, two heads, cruises @ 20-21 kts (1850 rpm), fresh engines etc, etc.
