Since I did not have any way to know the boat's current name, I could not use the noaa site (referenced above) to search for it. What I used was a pay site www.boatinfoworld.com to which I subscribe, and searched by the HIN to come up with the info.

It is amazing how small the boating community is. I think I will start a thread about reconnecting with boats from the past. The 53 MY was everyones dream boat at that time.

Unless you were a fisherman then the 53C was the dream boat.

So what is everyones' dream boat today? Is there one? Or are all the new boats too ugly to dream about?

I've thought about that one and there really isn't anything new out there that I like better than the Hargrave designed yachts of the 70's and 80's. I also like the Dick Avery designed Chris Crafts of the 60's and 70's. I do like the Tiaras, but a half million for a new 30-something foot boat seems a little steep to me. I also like the newer Ryboviches, but the newer ones look like the older ones to me. One thing that no new boat has that most of the classics have is the 2-stroke magical sound of the Detroits.

If I were to get a different convertible, it would be a Series 2 45' Hatt. Except that I wouldn't do anything different in boating, so I will just keep what I have. If anyone wanted a mid-size convertible, I would tell them to get one of those.

My dream boat is the SS United States; but I will never, I am sure, get a ride on her. That's my favorite boat of all time.
