  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' MOTOR YACHT (1987 - 1989)
I saw that "Chris" has one, as does a clone of his boat on Yachts.com.

How difficult? How much? Advantages? Disadvantages?
I'm in SF Bay Area, so Pac NW (San Juans) and SF Delta are "cruising grounds" for me. Both areas are different. Very different.

Thoughts, oh wise ones?

I also have a 48 MY (1982 Series I) and plan on having a hard top fabricated and installed on the fly bridge. I want it to look like part of the boat starting at the leading edge of the radar arch and have a configuration much like the hard top over the aft deck, including curved edges etc. Will keep everyone informed on progress....

I have one on my 48MY series one as well. It's aluminum so light weight. Best part is there are no leaks so we can leave anything we wish on the bridge. You can also mount various antennae on it quite easily.

My 58 has an extremely rigid frame into the arch and I intend to top it with aluminum also. Alminumfancierwillie

I'm not sure, but I think the hardtop on mine is original because it is one piece with the arch. Did Hatteras do that? Also the built in seating on my aft deck appears to be original, but I have not seen another 48 MY with this seating.

Walter P,

Who is doing your work??? There several good tower outfits in New Jersey, I have been out of the loop for a couple years, but I still have friends in the canvas business, and I can ask them who is putting out the best tower/pipe work out lately.

Don't know who's going to do it yet, still percolating on whether to do it or not...

Chris:
I saw that sundeck seat in the photos. "Original?" Hmmmm. Still have access to the transome (I don't remember)? Storage underneath? ((Plans in the owner's book?????)) Its very cool looking, is it functional?

My 48 has teak decking on the sundeck, steps to fly and in the fly bridge. I haven't seen another with that either.

I think the seating is original. There is a small section that removes easily to access the ladder to the swim platform. It's very functional for me, I don't know what I would do without all of the storage it provides. I have two of almost everthing, sets of lines, powers cords in a few different combinations, ect.
I would like to see some photos of your teak deck. I am going to install teak floors in my cabin space this winter and was thinking about doing the aft deck and bridge too. Is yours glued down? How thick is it.
Chris
