Guys you ain’t seen nothing

Sitting here in Monte Carlo all day on a 500 ft sailboat, watching all the 100-150ft private yachts dock. And those are the small ones, there are numerous 180-250 ft yachts here. They dock completely different from what we do and back these things in spaces that look entirely too tight. I’ve had more fun today than any other day on our trip.

I will try to upload a photo from the iPhone. I may have to wait until I return to the states but I’ll try. Probably will cost me a hundred bucks as apparently Monty Carlo jams phone signal according to the crew and charges 95/day to use the local cell and WiFi.

Biggest question I have is why you are on a sailboat. Are you ok?

Ha ha ha, good question. We are on the Windsurf sailing yacht of the Windstar cruise line. Having trouble understanding how to load pics from the iPhone so may have to wait until I return.

I think they enjoy the smaller towns we have visited but the large yachts in Monte Carlo were fun yesterday.

I was docked there in a small cruise ship. 800’. Below and next to shore was a 300’ private yacht. Helicopter, ski boats, jet skis etc, around dinner time out from the side of the yacht drives a white Bentley. The owner was escorted out by his private guards. He was a shike ( spelling) big big money. Then two fuel tankers pulled in and took 4 hours to unload their fuel damn this guy was loaded.

Yes but can he step ashore from his boat and enjoy a can of beer with his dock mates without making
arrangements with his security detail. It may seem like a small price to pay but in my opinion that
owner of the 300 footer is losing out on some of the simple pleasures of life. Now, would it be nice to
have all the toys etc that he has and the $ to take care of them..probably but I have never been to a
funeral service and viewed anyone laid out in a bed of money. Most of us on this forum have a pretty good
life and enjoy our "small" boats and we have the additional advantage to be free to enjoy the simple
things of life whenever we wish.

All of the above is true but damn, it would be nice to try for a few weeks.......

I'm sure there's worse problems to have than too much money. I would be willing to test that theory though. How much is too much?

Probably no such thing as too much. A good situation is to have lots of $ but don't let anyone know about it so you can indulge in whatever you want without fear. As the old saying goes, rich or poor it's nice to have money.

I have heard many stories about very wealthy people giving up their mega yachts with the crews and all the other luxuries associated with them and bought "normal" folks size boats so they can get back to basics and enjoy the total experience....such as running it yourself, docking, anchoring out in private and even skinny dipping without a crew watching you. One such person comes to mind is Dave Thomas, the founder of Wendy's and there are/were many others.

back from our trip and we have almost recuperated from the time difference, We had a blast but defiantly liked the small towns more than the large ones. I posted a few pics below from my computer, that i couldn't figure out how to do from the iphone while on the trip.

next day we were in San Remo and what did I see ........






I took several pics of the hatteras until the wife got on me to stop looking at it and "lets go have some fun" .....

we visited several small towns, enjoyed the scenery and the food. Very picturesque and quaint marinas in many towns.

Fairly certain I saw a couple more Hatteras' over there but couldn't get close enough to take any pics.
