I am currently having my Helm and Cockpit non-skid redone after a soft spot repair in the Cockpit. My original estimate and discussion with my contractor was to use a mixture of awlgrip fine and coarse. My request was for something that would not tear a bathing suit and or injure someone's skin. My contractor is now wanting to do all coarse because he said that it'll be more uniform and he feels that it's going to meet my request. Real world thoughts??? Thanks

Don't really think coarse Griptex is that abrasive, coarse is really Awlgrip's medium level. Think it also depends on how much paint goes over it after it's down, always like to spray another layer of topcoat over the nonskid to protect it a little more.

According to him, Griptex is Awlgrip's Non skid and also there is no Medium any longer.

Worst bruising l suffered was from slipping after using wash and wax Non skid made no difference

I found the fine to be more than enough and easier in feet, knees and hands. I repainted my deck and cockpit using fine with a third coat over top. I even used the fine on the floor of my nephews john boat and he is happy with it. I applied it with a handheld sandblasting gun with the hopper on top. I came out pretty even for a non professional.

Can someone tell me what color the Griptex is?

They are opaque resin beads so as the paint wears off the color from below shows through if that makes sense. Contrary to what was said above I have found the fine to be to fine. Always use course and put to coats of paint on top.

I've always used the fine, and it provides plenty of tooth to the surface.

As an alternative, I used Kiwigrip. I have used a few other systems, and this is by far the best. A local boatyard uses this and nothing else. It is one part, water clean-up and you can adjust the texture by the type of roller used. This has become my go to.
