  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' CONV -Series I (1978 - 1986)
Ohana was in for an insurance survey (first time in seven years, and no problems noted), plus a bow thruster and underwater light install.
While I was at it I tackled the front of the house. The original window glass-in job was failing (cracking the paint anyway) at the corners. Sanding off the paint so we could see what was going on revealed that the original job was lacking, to say the least, so it was ground out, re glassed, faired, and painted.
The "while we're in there's" included painting out all the bilges, chain locker, and lazarette, a prop tune up, also I machined and anodized new billet outrigger lower brackets.
I went with a 24V Sidepower 10 inch dual prop thruster and four Deep Sea Power and Light LED lights.
All told roughly $30k
On the way back from the yard I ran her up to full rpm (2369 indicated on digital tachs) and saw 25.2 knots gps in 42 foot depth flat water.
Now for the massive clean up to wipe the yard scum off her. There's nothing like having fiberglass and paint guys traipsing through the boat for three weeks to leave a huge mess.

Hey Dave, what did you go with on the uw lights? # and size?

A 60C at 25 knots WOT - very impressive.

Not that you want to go there often, but good to know she can do it.

Bow thruster? C'mon, Dave when you took me out for a ride you docked her like she was on tracks. What do you need a bow thruster for?

Happy Holidays!

I hate the "while your in theres" but it sounds like she is in great shape again. Sometimes it's just necessary to do whats needed and worry about the cost later. I am interested in what was wrong with the window glass in. How was it done before that it was failing?

The lights are 12 LED On-Hull Sea Light by Deep Sea Power and Light. I know several guys at Deep Sea professionally, it's a good company and their products are made to a "damn the cost" standard.
The window "removal" was, I thought, done at the factory (ordered as an option) but I must have been wrong about that. I can't believe the factory would have been so shoddy about a laminate schedule. It must have been done at some un-named yard after the sale.
There are some large forces acting on the house when we are running 20 knots into rough water, over time the joints around the former window openings (that had been "fixed" with only ONE thin layer of glass with cotton stuffed into the crack underneath:confused:) began to fail.
It's done correctly now.

Why get a bow thruster?
I have a cross wind/cross tide slip entered from a fairway not too much longer than the boat.
My wife has hip replacements and isn't as nimble as some, so in effect I'm single handing most of the time from a tall bridge. We have floating docks with concrete pilings, so rubbing against those to help back in is a non starter.
Besides.......I wanted one and had the money:)

I like that attitude.

""damn the cost" standard", I like that!

Few things are made that way these days.

Dave you sound happy, enjoy the improvments.

What color did you go with? I have blue from a different mfg. but it would be helpful to show some of the lights we use and where they are pointed.

What was I thinking?

I guess it's like when my wife asks me just why I really need 16 of those matching fishing poles with the big gold reels on them.

I installed four lights, color white. the units I selected are dimmable and have a strobe feature (said to attract predator species).
Why white? Ask four fisherman (or four thousand) what color works best and you will get a different answer for each man asked.
Some say blue, fish can see blue better, all other colors are for the uniformed.
Some say green, fish can see green better, all other colors are for the uninformed.
Some say paisley is best
I figured since white is made up of the entire spectrum, (and only fish actually know what colors -if any - they can see, all bases are covered.

Dave..How many underway hours have you put on your boat since you bought it? Just curious. Also wondered how you get that kind of speed out of 12-71s. I would guess you have the ones jacked up to 840 hp. That is incredible speed for a boat that heavy with the 71s. You have all the trick stuff, now you should take a trip to Mexico..

Correct with the white contains all colors. Also remember that different colors are filtered out at different rates in water so you may as well have them all.
