Getting killed on NC property tax, so I am going to move boat to SC and get some work done there. Does anyone have a yard they like in the Myrtle Beach area or a little further south is ok. Thank you.

The tax law thing is more of a county issue than state (I'm no lawyer but I'm sure about this - been dodging NC and SC taxes for years, good at it too).

The problem with Horry County, SC is that they exercise a state law that allows taxes to be imposed after only 60 days consecutive or 90 days combined (word has it that the Commissioners are already considering repealing their option as it has caused considerable loss to all marinas).

In answer to your question I'd avoid Hague and especially avoid Anchor Marina! Fisher's Silver Coast Marina is your only good choice.

FWIW, Hewitt at Holden Beach, Bennetts Brothers in Wilmington, Cape Fear Boat Works (910-371-3460), and Swan Point Marina and Boat Yard (910-327-1081) are all good.

For more info you could also consult with any local "gray haired" marine surveyors. Good Luck.

I have heard that the owner of Swan Point is a Hatteras fan.

I will call Onslow County and see what the bill would be for there and maybe just pay it there and keep New Hanover off my hiny. I like the idea of working with Swan Point and keeping the boat down south. I currently have the boat in Wilmington but would need to move it so as to avoid taxation by New Hanover or Pender who I hear is just as bad. That is why working with yards in the Wilmington area will not work. I could move it back to Va because Hampton has very low rates but my family doesn't want it back in VA. Other option is go all the way to FL but I don't know any good yards in NE Fl. Thank you both for your responses.

we just completely repowered refurbished re...everything to our boat at Cape Fear Boat Works in Navassa---across the river from Wilmington, in Brunswick Co.
It is a relatively new boatyard and the owner lives on his boat and can also give you pointers on moving the boat at the right time. you might want to give them a call.
