Basically a large open socket on the end of a handle bar. Loosen the nut on the top to release the clutch.

Some of the newer capstans have two holes in the top. The wrench is a handle with two prongs instead of the big socket.

Newer maxwells use a flat alum bar that slots in the top of the capstan.

Mine has a big nut on top. Maybe 1”? My boat was rammed and my anchor is bent and under a lot of tension so I need to release it to bring the anchor aboard to see what’s what.
