Well, I guess I didn't get or see that warning about not tightening down much on the GFO until after you're out and running. Looks like I'll be repacking the port side. It got pretty hot on a very short test run. Stbd seems good, though, though all rpms.

Question...Karl mentioned he thought my 45c (2" shafts) would use 1/2" packing instead of the 7/16" I used. It seemed like the 7/16 slid easily into the space between shaft & gland; it wasn't sloppy, but it wasn't snug, either. How snug should it fit when you're placing it? Maybe I SHOULD have used the 1/2".
 
It should be fairly snug - if it slides without resistance then its too loose and you have to crank on it too hard to get it to seal. The goal is to not have to "bulge" it to get it to seal - you want it to seal across the entire flat, not on a small bulged part.
