Genset Remote Start Panel

I will be installing them in the Spring, together with appropriate AGM fuses. I cannot imagine any builder getting past a survey without them.

I really cant believe any builder would not install batt switches. That s absolutely nuts.did you trace the cables? Didnt you get the boat surveyed ?

I'd call the surveyor and ask if he found the switches. Abyc would not allow a power source to be in fused and unswitched.

Meant ANL fuses in prior post. Good idea about calling the surveyor.

I've been switching to breakers whenever possible. Breakers are reset fuses are replaced if you have a spare.

Breakers need to be of a type that they can Not be held on against a trip.

The switches to the engine are also important. Find out the amp rating needed for the starter and make sure your switch will handle it.

I am being told that the DC main breaker, the FB main breaker and the Engine main breaker (which runs through a start solenoid) is the way all Oceans are wired and that such a method is compliant. Not too sure about that.

JLR, can't recall which Ocean you have, but I have a good friend with a recently new to him 05 or 06 42 Ocean. He is working through a mess of wiring, has to do with FB main line and electronics. Don't know the details, but most stuff missed on survey, including a really poorly done bonding system.

FYI - The Westerbeke remote panel has 3 momentary switches, but some are single pole-single throw, and other are double pole-single throw. Also, the interconnection of the switches and their connection to the generator control panel is critical to proper function. It isn't rocket science, but any wiring errors will prevent correct function.

After many-many hours trying to determine why my remote panel would not work properly, I finally found an error in the Westerbeke wiring schematic. So others don't have to repeat my wasted time, I've attached the corrected schematic.

I have been fortunate with the systems on my 56 Ocean. It took a bit of time to figure some things out ( no parallel switch etc.), but I have been pleased with the boat. It also makes me appreciate more the things I took for granted on my Hatteras like wiring diagrams, easy access panels, individual fusing and even battery switches. November will be a year with the boat. It usually takes me a year to get everything just the way I want it. I am almost there.

If you are sure about the 3 momentary switches, then you probably jump them. You need to know if they are N.O. or N.C. momentary switches. N.O. switches would be jumped in parallel. N.C. switches would have to be jumped in series.
