Why not just bite the bullet, replace it, and do it the right way? We all want to save money but peace of mind is worth something. Hot motors can cause fires.

I used a 15 amp, (32-12-15) Newmar on it. Got a new 12V motor instead of the 32V and now can run both of my blowers at 12 volts switched from the same source. Just one way to do it. ...Pat

Well, turns out I was wrong re the blower. It IS a 32V motor. I did an ohm test and it's the same as the other two 32V blower motors. Then, after much scraping, I also found a stamp on it, covered with paint stating it's 32V. So I re-cleaned/re lubed, polished the commutator, installed new brushes and re connected it. Again, it seems to blow harder than the other two and definitely runs hotter. I shot it with an IR gun after 15 minutes and got 142F on the motor - too hot to hold my hand on. In that same 15 minutes one of the other motor's temp was 130 but the third one was only 104F, which logically seems a comfortable temperature to me though I have no data to base that on.

All are sleeve-bearing motors and all were cleaned and lubed at the same time with the same oil. The bearings have no oil holes so there is no way to lubricate them in service, they must be removed and disassembled to be lubricated. So obviously they were "lifetime" lubricated when manufactured. Of course, "lifetime" probably wasn't construed to REALLY mean lifetime...or even 33 years. :)

The bearings feel OK, not great but no excessive play. I suspect that new bearings would drop the operating temps down but the bearing carriers are riveted in place, again, not designed for replacement. So they would have to be drilled out in order to install new ones. Certainly do-able...at some point when it rises high enough on the "things to do" list. It would be quite high on the list if I ever actually used the blowers...

It just occurred to me re blowing a bit harder - it has a new impeller (from Sams) while the other two have the original impellers. All are plastic so I suspect that the old ones are somewhat abraded over the years and don't "grab" the air quite as efficiently as a new one with nice, sharp blades. But that's just a guess.
