Do not confuse 2, 120v services coming as always being 220v, Unless the service is wired to opposite phases, you have 2 120v circuits.

If anyone thinks drawings would help make this topic easier to understand, let me know and I'll be glad to make some up.

120/240-50 service is ALWAYS on opposing phase. You get 2 120 volts legs and 240 service for those 240 v system

This is what you find at just about every marina on the east coast and Bahamas at not 40 to 80' slips. This is what gets on the boat thru a 4 wire power cord.

What happens next, depends on the boat. If you don't have any xformer, then the neutrals goes to the neutral bus, the ground goes to the ground bus, the two hots feed your 120 and 240 services.

Good thing we never get 125/ 50 or 208.

Since we only have 125 / 250 50 amp why would anyone need transformers?

Fyi I know of a few boats with 250 v 50 amp cords with only 3 wires. They do not connect to the neutral on the pedestal. They can use either 208 or 250 v.
