Generator head gasket

Hello, running into a bit of a problem. I live in south east Asia and have a 46C. The generator on the boat got some water in it and seized after a long period of non use. I took it off the boat and dismantled it. Got it all moving again and went looking for gaskets. Its a Kohler 15kva genset. with a yanmar 4JHL-K engine. Contacted Australia Yanmar and was told that its a engine made for Kohler and to contact them. Kohler USA told me to use Kohler Singapore. they never replied, emailed USA again, Kohler Singapore replied, asked them for gaskets, they said they need the Kohler part number and serial number. I do not have. they said they cant help me. Contacted USA, they no longer reply to emails. Asked Kohler Singapore for a price on a new generator, they never replied. I guess Kohler has sold enough generator..

Everything I have read on here lately says to use Flex seal for head gaskets and Woody wax for everything else??? Seriously I saw in the Northern tool catalog today they are selling a 3 cylinder Kohler Diesel engine. I didnt know Kohler made a diesel either but their gas ones are some of the best on the market. The one in Northern tool was about 4K. Not sure if it would fit your application

How hard would it be to get the serial number off of the generator. There should be a tag on there somewhere. How bad are the cylinders?

I have had a similar problems last year; I would try to source engine parts from a Yanmar distributor. The only things you will need to look for from Kohler are the HE, Manifold, and a few other other marinization & genpac specific parts. In my case it was a Perkins engine which I was able to find parts for such as thermostat etc.

call R&T Power Systems 252-773-0739 talk with Julie or Krissy they can get parts or a price on new generator. They have been dealer of year for pass 4 years for Kohler.

Go to your yamar tractor dealer and check with them.

I’d take a close look at the valves and seats first. With water ingestion there’s likely erosion and a valve job in order, finding those parts may also be an issue.

COMETIC (online) makes head gaskets , just send the old one and they will manufacture a new one. Had it done for a NL M854 a couple years ago and worked well...................Pat
