I don't think the steam car would make it, nor the boat. Maybe on fresh water. They had an interview on TV with a Stanly steamer owner and he said that he got one mile to the gallon of water. I thought that he would have gotten a lot better than that. Thirsty little sucker. I don't think I ever did figure out how much water our steam engine on our plant air compressor used.

Look up the Doble steam car; it's a closed system on it. I guess power plants go through tons of water (besides make-up water)

That's quite a car. Maybe with today's technology they could get the mileage and speed up to a usable number. 11.5 miles per gallon of kerosene at 20/25 miles an hour won't quite make today's requirements. Interesting article. I don't know if I would want to ride around in a car with a boiler at 600 pounds of pressure at 490 degrees. With today's drivers one wreck and your flash fried. That is, what's left of you after things come to a halt.
I wonder what attitude the plane must remain at to safely keep the boiler from flashing. That was a problem with boilers on ships in ruff seas. Trains also had the incline problem. Nice article on the Doble steam car.

Chris,

Are you going to ask everyone if they wnt espresso or capaccuino before you start the engine with the steam?
