we had problem posed a while back. 454 crusaders. one engine kept dying back from 2800 and would not run past 2300. wasnt timing and everything else seemed fine. we suspected the carburator, Rochester quadrajet. pulled it and sent off for rebuild. while off we pulled intake and pulled the lifters. replaced them as most of you recommended. also replaced the valve stem seals, pressurized cyl and took off the springs etc. cleand up the sludge coating and reinstalled everything with assembly lube.
Got carb back monday and went over yesterday. installed it and fired it right up. adjusted the valves per specs and took her for a run. runs perfect. changed the oil twice. Put in Rotella for the final change and new filter per Maynards recommendation.
i took valve covers home and bead blasted them and gave new paint job, also cleaned up intake and painted it. painted exhaust manifolds. the thing looks nice.
Mind you , i have never done any of the above before and had minimal assistance. had 3 consultans plus this forum. I mentioned in prior posts that I typicaly do not know what I am doing but know who to ask and have a good understanding of mechanical stuff.
