  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Starting a small project in the galley, and wondered what type of wood is recommended as the closest match to what was originally used in my 1973 MY?

The wood that was most likely used in your galley was Afromosia. Doors are plywood with veneer. Frames and trim is possibly Teak or more likely Afromosia or Mahogany.

You can get Afromosia veneer at some $elect upscale wood suppliers. Mahogany veneer is more readily available and affordable, and with proper staining/oiling can be a nice 10' match.

I did this project: https://ladykay.blog/galley/

The veneer was Afromosia, the trim is Sapele.

I am pretty sure that the 1973 year was Mozambique teak that was felt sawed. Most of the wood in the 1973’s was solid not veneered. John

Sapele is about as close as readily available. Barker door and cabinet will make anything you need and not too expensive. About a 6 week lead.
