I came across this in one of the automotive trade publications and thought it was interesting.

I find this particularly interesting as I once restored a 1978 Eagle Intercity Bus and converted it into a motorhome. It had over 1M miles on it and was once a Greyhound and Trailways. Who knows, you may have rode on it at one point.

It was almost like building a boat from scratch. We stripped it to the frame just like in the Futureliner photos. Then came the frame repair, riveting the new aluminum skin on it, wiring, foam insulation, etc, etc. It as a 3 year project that took all of my spare time. Never again.

By the time you build cabinets, install new genset, a/c, appliances, plumbing, control panels, you don't come out ahead. Your time is worth something. You may end up with a bus that is just what you wanted, but I think you're better off buying one where someone else already did that work.

A few years ago , I was looking for a period vehicle to haul a vintage race car for a race in Mexico . Searched everywhere , including the southwest , where I was living at the time . I found one of these Furtureliners in Ohio , the ask was around $15,000 . I didn't want to modify such a historic vehicle . After seeing the one that sold at the Barret auction , wish I grabbed it . The vehicle that I did get is still a project in my shed . See Sky's comments above .
