Hatteras Model
37' CONVERTIBLE (1977 - 1982)
If I remove the feed line @ the elbow on my fuel tank and then remove the elbow that screws @ the top of the fuel tank will the pick up tube be attached to the elbow ? I need to inspect this tube my Stb engine quits when the fuel tank is low when I slow down from cruising speed. When I fuel the boat the port tank actually takes a little more fuel than the starboard.
The pick up may have a crack or even be broke
Thanks Jim

yes, it is attached.

from previous experience if you make a new one, it's not that hard, solder the joint. DO NOT Braze it. It will crack.

You speak of a stb. and port tank. If your boat is a later, (mid 80s), 36C, it has one tank. 366 gallons. Each engines pickup tube is a 1/2" hard copper tube that is soldered into the 90 degree elbow fitting that you see under the cockpit hatch. They are easy to remove. I can't image anything happening to that tube except that it could come unsoldered at the fitting. I don't think it would supply any fuel if that occured. OOPS, I just re-read that yours is a 37C. My tube comments are valid though.

My 37 has 2 fuel tanks I cannot think of anythiny that can make the motor stall after slowing from planing speeds only when the tank is very low other than a pick up issue any ideas ??

It's possible the pick up tube was originally shorter or maybe the end of the tube has a crack or corrosion....you can always install a slightly longer pick up tube ....but not all the way to the bottom of your tank when you'll possiblely pick up crud...
