I have lost the piece of paper that had the # for the Secondary filters on my 8v92s. They are the drop in type. Do any of yall know the number for the filters. The boat is in Ft. Lauderdale adn I can not get the number untill I get there. I need to purchase filters to take with me. Please help if you can. I can use a fleetguard, NAPA, Carquest or any number you have. I know what they look like, so if I have a start, I will fiture it out. Thanks.

Pat, My 8v92's have spin-on secondary filters. I believe the NAPA # is 3120. I'd have to check tomorrow when I get down to the boat. If these sound like they might be what you have, call me anytime after 10am and I should be down at the boat and I can tell you for sure the number.

Mine are the drop in Canister type. They are not spin on's. I am going to change to spin on's, but have not yet done the conversion.

Pat,

My 1983 8V92s have 1 drop in per engine. The NAPA # is 3512 and the FRAM # is C1175PL. The WIX # is similar to the NAPA.

Hope this helps.

Ok, I went to Napa and they had two numbers. Both look exactly the same except for a little diameter difference. We came up with the 3540 & the 3512 which you listed. the 3540 is listed in the book as the detroit filter # for the secondary, but he 3512 looks more like what I have.

Who would actually have the correct part number? Should I try to call Detroit?

Assuming I don't forget between now and when I get home (boat) this evening, I could look that up for you. Egaito got me the ENTIRE parts catalogue (several volumes thick) for the 8v92 from Detroit Diesel last time he was on the boat a few weeks ago. I got the whole series of service manuals too.

Angela, Thanks! I think i got it figured out though. It seems that the two numbers are purly a difference in micron rating. The 3540 is a 6micron, and the 3512 is a 10 micron. Not sure which one I have, but I think it is the 3512. I purchased 6 of each and am going to figure it out when I get to Ft. Lauderdale. I can return the unused filters.

I have the filter heads to convert the secondarys to spin on, but did not have the time to tackle the project before I took it down to south florida. It just has to be dealt with untill I get back from the Bahamas.

Thanks for the help.

I have two drop-ins per engine and they are 9 micron and 2 micron. I don't put any filter in the first cannister where the 9 mic goes since I run 2 micron in my racors anyway. I see no need for it since the fuel should already be "clean" before it gets to that filter.

What I wonder is if the 10 mic that you are referrencing (#3512) provides enough flitration to be used as a secondary. Is it a sock type filter or just paper?

I dont know if it provides enough or not, but according to FDDA, it is the correct filter. It is a short term problem though. I have the spin on filter heads to replace the drop in filters and I am going to change them out when I return from the Bahamas.
