  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
We limited out on bonita :D and got 1 king. Weeds were in close but noone was home. Scattered reports of dolphin and wahoo but nothing solid. We saw quite a few free jumping sails and 8-10 large turtles. Seas were 2-3 and steep out of the NE. Lure of choice was a purple trolling feather and it was red hot!(if you like bonita) A good time was had by all and I would like to give a thumbs up to Bionic Baits. They held up very well.....

Thats good to hear. A friend went out of canaveral sat and got 1 Bonita and 2 small dolphin. I like your day better.

Sunday - Port Canaveral:
20 kings (12 released); 1 sail (released); 1 bonito

Additional info. - lots of rays spotted on south Pelican Flats near Melbourne. Most rays were seen with several cobia on them. Several 15 - 20 pound dolphin caught north near 27 fathom ridge on a small weedline.

Go Bob. I gotta get some fishing in.

Excuse me gents, as I know nearly nothing about fishing but I distinctly remember throwing many bonita back as "trash" or "bait" fish (can't remember) during many offshore trips off Costa Rica and Panama. None were terribly large. Are they different in the gulf? Good eating by chance? Maybe it's the type of fishing that we were doing at the time (I dunno).

Maybe it's like the sailfish thing on the opposite coasts of Costa Rica. On the caribbean side, they're all ~60lbs but on the Pacific side you catch 120lb sailfish all day. I thought that was pretty strange!

They are a trash fish, but good for strip bait! There is no limit, I said it in jest. I have heard they are good to eat if you cut away the dark meat. We are not catching the real bonito either, ours are actually "little tuny". Great fighters and they break up an otherwise dull trip.

Nassau, BAH Report:

Went out Friday got 3 big bulls, 30,40 and a 50lb, 10 15lb cows, had a rat blue marlin on, and released a 60lb white Marlin.
Seems like things are starting to heat up over here

Good Luck

I am told the corner is starting to heat up as well. We are going the first week of April if we can get the heads and tails issue resolved.......

Trying to go out 02/24 and 02/25, will have to see on crew and weather.

We scooted down I-95 Thursday pm for a two-day weekend fishing out of Stuart. The Friday morning bite was strong:
Working through the maze of temporary markers to pass the mouth of the PSL inlet eas interesting, but the 40 + boats clustered 2-3 miles off the beach just North were hard to ignore...I though all were making bait until I realized the number of boats hooked up to sail's...all in 60'! We stuck to our plan and trolled deadbait around the inshore fleet and within 45 minutes bam- the center goes off with a medium sail spooling a 20# down nicely...in 45' of water. We got a great release on a healthy fish and commenced to trolling again with not even a shot for the remainder of the day.
Saturday, there was an even larger fleet on the bait, but the sails apparrently moved offshore, into the 100 + depth.
We never got our second fish but managed to boat a 25# bull dolphin, 1 spanish mack and 5 bonita's on 14# - 20# spinning tackle. Fun weekend with great weather.

Great day Gregg! I've had to work  but should be home for a week or two, let me know if you're headed down this weekend. As for bonito, years ago my friends Mom would clean a bonito then boil the meat, chill and make it into a bonito (tuna) salad for sandwiches. Every bit as good as real tuna. I should get the recipe.

Sorry to hear about your work schedule, Mike. I was down for the past two weekends in a row.

We took the mahi up to Wahoo's (where I'm keeping the boat) and kinda bartered the fish for a few great mahi dinners ...MMMM, mmmm, Good! ;)
