  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
The question has come up regard where to fly a burgee of a launch club. I have a 43' DC with a mast. The mast has lines forming a diamond shape. Not sure what it is called. My question is where on the mast (or the diamond shape of lines) should I fly a burgee? What is the Diamond shaped line configuration called?

+1. We fly all of our burgees from the staff on the bow. One at a time, of course! We have different ones for different occasions.

That mast on your 43 was kind of a carry over from the glory days and it was called a signal mast. It was used to attach various signals including club burgees etc. Hatteras used it on most of their motor yachts in the past. Most motor yachts and not only Hatteras used some sort of signal mast as well. For the straight most accurate information I would consult a copy of Chapman's.

Etiquette, published by several YCs , suggests the bow or starboard side of mast or on a pig stick.

Not a burgee. Naval jack, properly removed when underway. The jack staff is a length of old railing from a sailboat; the ball is from Hobby Lobby. It's kept the seagull guano way down. Budget boating.

Always on the Bow. Classy look. The mounts that Top Hat shows are a perfect way to display your flags.
