Great job so far! Your engineering prowess is on display the way you supported everything etc. Have you considered using foam to replace the balsacore? http://www.defender.com/product3.jsp?path=-1|10918|2259972|2259998|2260006&id=22184 Structural foam is never going to rot. You have a ton of skill, obviously. I am sure you can figure out how best to install it. Hope Scott is fine! If you are coming to Mackinac Island please PM me.

DL2, long (very) time, no talk. Scott is now Sr. HR Salaried manager for US, Europe, China for a Grand Rapids corp. G'Kids grown way up: Granddaughter to college in Savannah, GA, G'son now 6'3", but a game guy, no sports; I would have been a sports terror in my day with his size and strength. Other son just took offer as IT Infrastructure Mgr for multi-state corp. Me? I owe, I owe, so off to work I go. On top of my IT game and fun stuff and toys to play with (software, hardware), so hate to quit. Dad died in 2011, so moved boat to Muskegon, which is a great marina (GL Marina). Mother died a few weeks ago, so been away from SM's forum.

Just pulled a couple more panels off. I switched from the Rockwell oscillating saw, to a new Dremel small circular saw: see pics. Works well and depth of cut is very easy to set. Don't know if it was a bad outlet, but the first Dremel burned and smoked in 15 mins. Got a replacement at Home Depot, which worked great, but on a different outlet, just in case.

Pics of panel cut out of flybridge just under the steering wheel. More balsa left, but all still bad and was still wet, after sitting all winter.

Re: Flybridge Re-Core; Look What I Found

Well, look what I found, under this panel! Somebody had been under this skin before and it sure wasn't Coosa Board. These pieces are coming out, to say the least. This panel cutout is aft at the back of the flybridge structure, as you can see.

First I'd like to congratulate you on your determination in taking on this emense job. I am humbled by your skill and resolve to get your boat right.

I would like to ask what are the expectations in performing exploratory surgery on deck coring? How is it dealt with if the wet coring extends under walls or other inaccessible areas?

New here, thanks for your thoughts.

It is my intention to reach back under hidden areas, scrape out debris and vacuum clean. I will measure the depth of hidden area and includes in layout measurements for sections to be laid. Those sections will be pre-fit and slid into the hidden areas and once fitted, removed and epoxied in. In the open areas, I plan to weigh down the new sections with good, ole' 25# bags of softener salt, side by each, as they say in the MI UP! Finally, I will re-install and epoxy down the original panels that I pulled. finally, beautify it all with coating of epoxy and paint.
