Weren’t the OWW locks open, no closures for maintenance? It would have been so easy to run thru to the east coast. Early on, like on Friday, I briefly considered running east to the Bahamas before it became clear the storm was heading to the west coast.

Think I'd rather be this guy than piled up in the parking lot.

That guy has Brass Balls! But I understand wanting to save your boat. Forest Gump style!

End result.

Jim (zigzag) checked in. Ok but no power or TV.

Saw some tv footage of what seemed to be port sanibel marina, spotted two possibly three Hatt MY in one piece. One was in the parking lot but upright, another was in in its slip afloat but slightly angled in the slip

anybody hear from juice ?

anybody hear from juice ?
The question I was afraid to ask. Ground zero for surge impact. But not part of a marina. No power there and also cell coverage is down or diminished. Helping a few down there deal with this by using my internet to figure out what info they need and then relay the info. There are 3 services on smartphones. Cell, texting, and internet with some overlap. Difficult times here. My wife's high school friend is married to a literally rich doctor. They are in Venice and got the hard wind damage. Just going to say they were not prepared at all. Last contact was Early yesterday and then nothing. Waiting. Hope the Juice, family, and lastly the boat are okay.

anybody trying to get in touch with people USE TEXT is was very spotty but the only thing that worked after Katrina

Talked to a friend of mine in Port Charlotte he was surprised to have the phone ring. Said he couldn’t call his neighbor next door. I remember in Frances I could call my son at the Airforce academy in Colorado but not my wife who was at a friends west of town. We had to relay messages through my son. I’ve heard they can disable local calling to prevent organized looting during natural disasters.

Got my ass kicked in Hurricane Irma. NEVER going through that again. I’m hauled out and strapped down to earth anchors into concrete in a yard on the Okeechobee Waterway (Stuart side), just past the first lock. And I’m staying there until Oct. 31 at least..

Got a call from a relative in Alva - about 15 miles NE of Ft Myers. No power or internet but his call phone works sometimes. All safe, no damage to house. Thank goodness he bought a whole house generator 4 months sgo.

It’s pretty amazing how many communities do not allow generators due to fire potential, and noise issues affecting those who don’t have them. Makes sense, but they’re sure nice to have. After Irma my noisy as heck Generac powered my (now sold) house for two weeks. Didn’t have any neighbors though. But “you can have solar generators” which are a joke.

With all the supply chain and employee shortages I can’t imagine how long it will take people to rebuild. I’m also pretty sure Insurance companies are going to be filing bankruptcies most ricky tick. Not good.

My nephew has been camped out in orlando since tuesday waiting for the damage report. He is a high voltage lineman on a storm crew. They expect to be there for quite a while and then onto the carolinas. Stay safe and best of luck to everyone.

Wait until you see what happens to the stock market when the insurance companies start liquidating holdings to pay claims
