  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1983 - 1987)
.We are in Cape May and this is our first available Internet hookup. We left Detroit on Labor Day. If any of you ever get a chance to transit the Erie Canal from Buffalo to the Hudson River, do it. That is the neatest thing I have seen, and at 65, and having flown the world, I have seen alot. We were never bored on that canal and took tons of photos. "Unity" has finally seen salt water. The run from Sandy Hook NJ to Cape May today was sporting. That old Hat had a big smile and just knocked those big swells and waves down like they weren't even there. A true tribute to the design and construction of these boats. We had the waves from the hurricane in Bermuda with the wind funneling from a Canadian high. No problem for these boats though. It never pounded and we kept the speed at about 16 knots. Tommorrow to Annapolis, (we will try to spend some time with Jim Rosenthal), then away on Saturday to the ICW at mile 0. These are wonderfull boats

Color me GREEN! Please keep up the posts!

Sounds like great fun. How far South are you going?? Can you make MIami for Columbus Day :D

Maynard, give me a call. I hope we can meet up. We are leaving Saturday for Virginia, but will be around through Friday. If you can, let me know where you are staying here in Naptown.

great news Maynard... so did you find a slip down here ?

hope you can make it for Columbus day...

Maynard, Where are you staying at Cape May, how long from Sandy Hook. I'll be following you down, leaving Sandy hook on the 27th. Let me know what your experences were good and bad so I can either stop or go at the same places. Good luck the rest of your trip.

We are In Annapolis now and had dinner last night with Jim Rosenthal. Thanks again Jim. We sure will be in Miami by Colombus Day. Trip down from NY should include a stop at Atlantic Highlands south on the inside of Sandy Hook. Cheap fuel and out of the seas. Next came Cape May where we stayed at Miss Chris Marina. This is a small fishing marina with cheap fuel. We then exited via the canal to Deleware bay. Do that only a few hours after low tide and ride the tremendous rolling waves to the C and D canal. This bay sure checks your Hynautic steering system, as those. From Cape May to Annapolis we used the inside helm and avoided the rain and rolling from the waves. The C&D canal is calm and you can go fast. The Chesepeke was rainy and the visibility was short, a real workout for the wipers. Too bad as the few times we could see the shore, it was very pretty. We plan on joining the groop for the Colombus Day outing at Elliot Key, or wherever. I'll just follow Pascal.

We have a seasonal slip at Dinner Key. I don't remember the well # but it is out the dock just north of your dock. I believe it is dock #6. We are told that after 6 months we can convert it to an annual slip.

Glad your having a good trip I am here in work and I am very jealous :D
Enjoy Safe trip and calm seas!
And gas has been dropping GOOD Timing

Looks like Pascal is going to be leading the South Florida Hatteras Parade!

Good for you Maynard. I'm glad you are having a safe and fun trip. I'm jealous!I'm thinking about moving near the Deland area. I would like to put the boat on the St.Johns river. You guys are having way too much fun when I'm up here freezing my butt off on the hard.

Maynard, nice to have met you guys and folks, make it a point to see "Unity", Maynard's Hatteras, if you are in Florida and the area. This boat shows why people want boats that have been in fresh water all their life...everything is shiny and clean. The second generation of the Hatteras 36 is a lot bigger inside than the first...and "Unity" is a particularly nice example of its kind.

Maynard, we are probably leaving for Virginia early AM Saturday, so keep an eye out for us, and we'll do likewise. We listen to 16 and 13. Have a good trip! Some places to think about stopping down South of here:

Waterside Marina and Tidewater Yacht Agency (I may have mentioned those), as well as Atlantic Yacht Basin in Great Bridge South of the locks, and Coinjock, NC, on the ICW is nice, too- cheap fuel and I'm told they have a good restaurant as well.

Us northern boaters always dream of doing what Maynard is doing. It sure is nice that there is so much support and good advise from this site. Maynard gave me a call when he hit Buffalo, he got here in the morning instead of at night as was the original plan. I gave him some directions over the phone, I was kind of looking forward to having him stay at our marina and having dinner with his group but he wanted to keep going. Anyway, his trip seems to be progressing well. Tony D

I sure wish you guys would stay up there b/c you are clogging up my waterways and dockage :D . Naw, not really come on down leave us all your money and then go home.lol It looks like we found a place in Palm Beach on the ICW so we'll be seeing some of you guys soon.....Have a safe trip.

We sure are having fun so far.Danger of a huricane is always a concern. We, like everyone in Florida will leave some serious money there.

Alligator marina south of Coin Jock has cheaper gas but Coin Jock has the Prime Rib

Maynard, You need to get these Florida boat guys to make and publish a restaurant guide book for all the water ways in Florida. That way you could plan your stops by the restaurants and not fuel stop :p . I hope your trip is still going well.

Beware you South FL Hatt owners. I plan on being at the Miami Boat Show in Febuary and I might just look you up. :D :D

Glad your trip is going well, Maynard. The last time we did that trip we spent an extra day at Charleston and at Hilton Head. Both real fun places to enjoy the seafood and see the sights. If you are not a time table you may find other places to stay for a extra night or two just to take it all in.

Maynard: you are ahead of us. We waited to leave Annapolis til this morning because the weather wasn't too good and I would rather run Blue Note from the bridge. We left at 6:30 AM, had a good run down to Wolf Trap Light with following winds (although the tide was running the wrong way), and by 12:30 were turning the corner into Mobjack Bay, having covered 115 or 120 sea miles in six hours. We then went up into the NW winds etc that were so favorable on the way down, spent an hour getting kicked around, finally found Zimmerman Marine, after nearly running aground- the last part was interesting. However, she's tied up safe and sound, and boating season is, sadly, over early for me. However, I hope to get the jump on it in the spring with new power and the running gear all tuned up.

Have a safe and enjoyable trip, Maynard, and I will try to make it to SF this year- with all these folks to meet, I just might have to hit a boat show or two.
