  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
50' CONV -Series I (1966 - 1969)
FtLauderdale boat show has been a tradition with us for almost 35 years I remember when there was maybe 4 or 5 “mega yachts” heck I don’t even think the term was coined back then. Hatteras had an air conditioned enclosed booth and served champagne and hot horderves to owners and qualified buyers. Go fasts with chromed out big blocks and thunderous exhausts. Now it’s 6 zillion mega yachts that all look the same. Top heavy midsized boats that look like overgrown carvers with windows cut out of the hull sides. And No Hatterases. Hatt had a booth with one guy and no boats. And from what I could tell none of the people walking around looked like they had deep enough pockets to buy a 13 whaler which was 32k. And the go fasts have turned into glorified bow riders with 5-6 outboards. It’s all kinda depressing.

Agree with you 100%.

There hasn't been a boat made by a major manufacturer in the last 10 or 15 years that I've been remotely interested in. The sole and singular exception being the Donzi ZRC, that thing is pretty cool. But that's 1 boat out of 100's of models available. The rest are awful. I haven't been to the boat show in 5 years because of exactly what you described.

The only thing that interests me is what they call trawlers now. Those are the Semi-displacement hulls of yesterday. Boats that look similar to the old Hatt motoryachts like Outer Reef, etc. But why would anyone be interested at those prices? You can have the same thing in a old Hatteras completely updated for much less money. And have a better built boat.
