Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
FINALLY the aging communist has recognized the fact that he is too weak to continue. I guess 49yrs of rule is quite enough.

FUEL UP THE BOATS! HOF RENDEZVOUS IN HAVANA!

Unfortunately, we now may have to wait until Roul steps aside for Cuba to open up, but who knows. This is a HUGE step forward!!!!

Raul is a YES man... everybody chips in $20 and he's a bought cigar! I'm heading that way next year... a dream come true! ws (see the strain)!

I don't think it will make any difference short term. But when it does "open" back up I gotts believe it will effect boatting to the keys and the bahamas to no small degree. Bill

Our daughter just got there a week ago. She is an MP in the Navy. She has been very busy learning everything so I have not talked to her much. She has to patrol and watch the detainees, not fun.....she does like the weather, she has the "caribbean" in her blood, like her mom...LOL..... I have been checking into seeing what I would have to do to go see her, and most folks tell me it is more trouble and red tape than it is worth. We hope to see her this summer when she joins us in Ct. for a family wedding. There has been news that they may use Cuba to execute the terrorists that did the first bombing of the trade ctrs. Makes this mom kinda nervous!

Cheers, Laurie & Jim

You don't remember Ricky (Desi) was Cuban? That was a 'cool' country just before Fidel.

Bill, you got some 'splainin' to do...

Dont forget, I was a child of the '50s!! What about Fred and Ethel? I have an ashtray from the original (real)Tropicana in NYC on the gas boat. Matches? We dont need no stinkin' matches... ;-) ws

Sadly Fidel is probably not dead yet (but close). He is still ruling by proxy. Unless Sheik Obama or queen Clinton go over there and kiss his ass, you can expect much of the same if not worse.

Fidel is charismatic and ruthless. Raul is just well, ruthless...

One day this will all change for the better. Siboney will be ready!

He will probably die peacefully in his sleep, too. Oh well, at least he will wake up in a far, far hotter place than Cuba!!

Talk about your masses yearning to breathe free: there is going to be an explosion of pent-up development if those folks only get 1/2 a chance.

well, he's been sick and undergoing surgery for over a year now... that's not much considering the pain he's done to the cuban people but it's something.

As much as i hope he's already dead, maybe it would be good if he could suffer for a little while longer...

I like to think that castro has been preserving unspoiled carribean waterfront for my generation. I hope to be in a position to buy some land down there once the communist finally fall, and before the greedy developers can ruin it. It would be cool if all this happens and the developers can't borrow the money for a number of years. Maybe we can help get some things in place to prevent a repeat of the development seen in Miami and other coastal areas. My mother was the First "Miss Poloroid" and traveled extensively attending company events. I grew up hearing about Cuba from her trips there before Fidel nationalized everything. I remember seeing her collection of pictures. It made me want to visit Cuba.

I would guess you will have at LEAST a 10-20 year window of opportunity. I think the developers and investors won't be able to sit down for many years to come LOL

I was once told that there is one of the world's finest "walls" for diving in Cuban waters. Can this be true? If so it will be totally unspoiled and just waiting for exploration!

I know there are folks on here whom are Cuban and I respect your position. I think it is silly to continue trade restriction. It has not worked for the past 50 years and the rest of the world is lined up for vacations.

I'm convinced that one of he worst things we can do to Fidel or little brother Raul is to lift the embargo.

The embargo serves no real benefit but to frustrate the masses already suppressed by a "pseudo" Communist regime. Removing it will unleash a dictators most feared enemy: the knowledge to the locals that not only does someone have it much better, but what the fruits of freedom can render. It all boils down to "information", a concept no dictator can tolerate - starting with the internet!

Lifting the embargo would result in a massive avalanche of American (Unidos Estatos) tourists on the island. Capitalism, which to the scorn of the (so called) Communists is tolerated in limited degrees, will explode. It would be extremely difficult for the old regime to keep a lid on the multiples passion for liberty.

Capn' Bill, I think you have the solution right there! We are wasting too many good years NOT traveling to Cuba. What about getting this issue to McCain and get him to lift the embargo when he becomes President! We could be there NEXT YEAR!!!

So now, how do we get the public excited about this amazing opportunity?

Now, I think I'll look up some charts for Cuba......LOL!

Oh sure, and the next thing you're going to tell us is that the war on drugs isn't succeeding.

We should have just taken over Cuba after the fall of the Soviet empire. It's in our national interest to have a neighbor that close who is not an enemy. What are we scared of? Our image around the world? How could that be any lower anyway? Let's just make it part of Florida and be done with it. The aging Baby Boomers are going to need a place to go. Florida can't hold them all.
